Somnia flinched back a bit from the bright light. She didn't need Castle to tell her what would happen. She already knew. Had known for a long time. "of course. I feel fine." she responded, trying to keep a level head and a level tone. this woman probably already knew she was full of shit, but she had to try.

The woman frowned. "You don't look fine, you're white as a sheet. Are you feeling any abdominal pain? Iron in your mouth?" She asked, looking as though she already knew the answer. The glassy look in the girl's eyes said more than she would. "Stand up for me." She told her, moving back.

Castle went to help her, though the medic shot her a snarling look to back off.

Somnia glared at the woman challengingly. She tried to force herself to her feet, almost managing it before it became too much and she fell back to the matress with a pained grunt. She laid back, feeling defeated and unable to look the woman in the eyes.

"I've seen enough, you look anemic." She muttered, watching the girl for a few seconds. There had been a time when she'd felt pity for the recruits, but now it was just the tedious aspect of her job she didn't like thinking about. "Go back to the captain and tell them. Send word back to me about what he wants done."

Castle stood up, nodding shakily and casting an apologetic glance at Somnia before walking out with a hesitant slowness.

"Just lay down, the captain will send someone for you soon." The medic added before wandering away from the girl, back to whatever she'd been doing.

The girl did as she was told, laying back and covering her face with her arm, using it to stifle her sobs once the other two were gone. If she couldn't work anymore then she was no longer useful. no longer worth feeding or keeping around. The only thing they had left to decide was whether or not she was worth a bullet.

After the drill was finished, and Josephe got the information from Castle, he sent the news the general and waited. He knew procedure, but he didn't want to loose his head if Weaver was one of Commands little projects. Why else would Singer have given him instructions? When the instructions returned to abandon concern with the recruit, his suspicions were confirmed. Something was going on over his head, and frankly he was glad to be free of it. He watched Castle return, defeated looking, to the other soldiers, and continued on as normal.

After sending the recruit back to Dumont, Singer remained conflicted. She had no free time, especially to worry about a recruit she'd met once, but she had the power to help the girl, and wasn't sure she could refuse knowing that.
It took her several hours to pry herself away from meetings and head over to the small infirmary. When she reached it, she felt some relief to see that the girl was still there, and walked over to her.

The medic immediately stood at attention and addressed her, but was given little more than a nod. "This girl is property of Command, I'll be escorting her from here. I'm giving you orders to ignore this and carry on."
The old woman nodded, standing back and wondering what was going on, heading back to her duties before she got into trouble with the general.

Singer addressed Somnia in a still-stern voice. "You can walk?" She asked, holding out her arm to aid her if she needed it. Singer herself didn't feel any worry about getting the kid out of the camp, she was only concerned for where she would take her or how she would get her there without suspicion.

Somnia laid there silently for hours in silence, watching the medic go about her business and trying to get some rest with little success. It seemed every time she started to doze off, her stomach started to hurt a bit more.
She frowned a bit when she heard someone else come in, recognizing the voice. Was she hearing things now? She looked up at Singer in surprise, taking a moment to get over her initial shock to shake her head. Them medic lady had already proven that she couldn't even stand up without help, she definitely couldn't walk. She reached out, allowing the other to help her, but still shivering and swaying a bit.

Singer helped pull her up, taking most of the girl's weight with little effort with an arm under hers and around her waist. She steadied Somnia with the other, leading her out of the tent and through a back way. They skirted the edges of old, emptied buildings backing the camp before she led the other down a narrow street only wide enough for a single horse. "Steady now, we're almost there." She added quietly. When they came to a blocked, steel fire door, she took a set of keys from an inner pocket and unlocked it, stepping into a poorly lit stair case. She let out a sigh as the closed the door behind them, easing up a little. This was a small infraction for her to commit, but she knew she was replaceable if command frowned on her, and even the slightest misstep made her uneasy. She was on thin ice and under threat of dismissal after the FairWeather incident, and even then, it had been a toss up to whether she would remain as she was, or be tortured and resocialized in the correctional facility for incompetence. Luckily for her, they'd needed her at the time, what with half the military dead.

She made more of an effort to carry the girl as she made her way up the stairs, and opened the door to a much nicer looking interior hall. After more stairs and walking, they finally entered a sort of apartment. It was more open than many houses in the federation, with windows, albeit barred ones, a clean kitchen, floor and sitting area with wines set aside and a large coiled heater, several cupboards and a fridge. To another side were bedrooms and a bathroom with a tub, shower and porcelain sink. The whole area was nicely lit and while it looked slightly worn, it was not unclean or falling apart.

A few seconds after the door was open, a little girl came running up. She had short, dark hair and Singer's complexion. Her eyes were an oddly bright hazel and she seemed to be covered in freckles, though she looked far too young too be the general's actual child. "Hi mommy!" She chirped, a loving smile spreading across her face before she noticed Somnia and looked perplexed. "Hi." She added again, though looked concerned at the other's appearance. "Are you okay?"
"Hello Addie, can you give us a moment? She needs to lie down and get some rest. Could you get me a glass of water ready please?" Singer asked her, too busy supporting Somnia to reach down and hug the other.

Singer led Somna to one of the bedrooms, it had a single bed with plain cream sheets, as well as a night-table, lamp and bookshelf. She helped her to the bed and let her lie down. "You're safe now, don't worry." She hurriedly left, not meeting the girl's eyes, and returned with the water and several tablets. "Take this, it's pain killers, medicine and supplements." She told her finitely, though her tone was softer as she moved back. "Is there anything you need? I shouldn't stay long."
She wasn't too worried for Addie; she'd explain to the little girl enough so she'd know to behave and leave Somnia alone, though the little one was usually fine on her own, provided she had some distraction and food available.

Somnia shuffled alongside the general unsure if she wanted to ask where they were going. She did as she was told when singer brought the medication, watching her with a kind of dizzy confusion from her spot on the bed. " why are you doing this?" she asked softly.

Singer looked back at Somnia quietly for a moment. "I worked hard to come this far so that I could make things better for people. Better for my country. In truth, I've failed. You don't deserve this hell, none of those sick kids do, but right now, I try to do what I can when I have the chance; I was able to help you, so I did. I wish I could do more, but right now I'm helping you." She explained to the other. Saving the girl had been more spontaneous than anything, maybe she'd been weak, but the girl was here now. "I don't know when I'll be back next, but you rest..." She considered the girl's outfit, the canvas and thick trench coat where hardly comfortable or clean at this point. She considered; there was the clothes Iste had left behind? The thought brought on a wave of pain and nausea she wasn't expecting, and she had to swallow a lump in her throat before continuing. "I'll leave you some clean clothes." She added, quieter than before, leaving again and coming back with a pair of her own sleeping clothes she rarely wore, setting it on the bed.
Iste's clothes would remain there for her when she came home.

Somnia listened to the woman, still not completely understanding. The words sounding too alien to be true. She huddled into her coat bit more once the other left, finding it a bit more difficult that usual to get warm. she barely responded when Singer returned watching curiously. "Thank you." she half whispered, regarding the other with tired green eyes,

She nodded, laying a blanket over the girl, and going to speak with Addie. After a few moments, the door shut and the general was gone.

A few more moments, and Addie peered into the room curiously before walking up to the bed. She watched the girl with large, wise eyes before speaking up. "Do you hurt?" She asked, reaching out to touch the girl's arm and feeling the pain herself.

Somnia snuggled into the blankets, trying to fall asleep now that the pain was starting to ease slightly. She looked up again at the sound of the girl entering, looking at her in confusion, unsure of what to tell her. "Uhmm." was all she managed as the little girl walked over.

Addie let go of her arm and wandered away, only to come back with one of the plant pots arranged around the house. She set it down on the floor and wrapped her hands around the bushy stalk. In seconds, the plant seemed to shrivel and loose color, wilting to the side. The girl stood up then and took Somnia's hand in both of hers, pushing the rush of energy and numbing into the girl. She didn't know where she'd learned this, but she'd used it before, and didn't see why she shouldn't now. The high of energy faded from her as she gave it to Somnia and she swayed a little, but smiled hopefully at the visitor.

Somnia watched the girl leave, getting a little freaked out when the plant withered and died before her very eyes. She stared at the girl, relaxing considerably as the last of the pain seemed to ebb away. "Whoa." she whispered softly, deciding to believe that it was the pain killers that singer had given her finally kicking in.

Addie grinned a little at the other's remark. She sort of wanted to ask the other to play now that she was certainly feeling better, but decided to head her adoptive mother's instructions to let Somnia rest. She got the girl a stuffed animal from her room and brought it over to Somnia's side before leaving to make a fort out of the couch cushions and her blankets. Maybe if she made it big enough, Somnia could play with her when she woke up. She'd have to dispose of the plant before Singer came home again, though.

When Singer did arrive home, it was nearly four in the morning. She set her things down, hung up her coat, quietly checked Somnia to make sure she was okay, and scooped up a sleeping Adelaide from what seemed to be a pillow fort. She rocked the girl in her arms for a few minutes as she made her way down to the child's bedroom, not wanting to let go of her. She rarely got to spend time with the little one, and never knew how much she'd have left, so it was hard to pass up a moment to hold her. She sat on the bed, then with little thought, kicked off her boots and curled up with the child. She could spare a few hours of sleep until sunrise, though she wished groggily it was more.

After several days, she woke Somnia up with coffee and a plate of dry toast, alongside the usual medicine. "Wake up; there's some breakfast here for you, you need to eat and get your strength back." She encouraged, her voice still rough from sleep. Her hair was loose and down to her hips rather than in the usual tight bun, and she was half in sleepwear, half in her uniform, dark rings circling her eyes. Addie, carrying a pillow and munching on two pieces of toast at once, watched from the doorway, following her mother around.

Somnia woke slowly, rolling out of bed and rubbing her eyes. She was feeling much better than she had been but her stomach still twisted painfully at he thought of eating the toast. She started with the medication before starting to tear tiny pieces off of the toast

Singer glanced at her with sympathy, but was glad she was able to eat away at the toast. "If you're well enough to get up today, you can use the shower and get cleaned up; I had some clothes put out for you to wear, but don't feel rushed. There will be a woman around today to check on Addie and cook for her, you too if you want to eat. Her name's Kipa, she shouldn't give you any trouble." She told her so that if they ran into each other, Somnia would know not to be worried. The general gave a bit of a nod and headed out, hugging Addie and bidding goodbye to the child, who ran in with Somnia as soon as she was gone.
"Morning." She chirped, sitting on the floor with her pillow underneath her, and continuing on with her toast while keeping the other company.

Somnia listened to Singer quietly, feeling a little weird about a stranger coming in here. She didn't entirely trust that they wouldn't turn her in or kick her out. "Good morning." She greeted the little one softly, giving her a gentle smile. "Would you like some?" She inquired, offering the other her toast, having given up on eating for the time being.

"No thank you. I already ate six." Addie told her happily, patting her stomach and smiling back. She was glad Somnia was nice; a lot of people were so grumpy, especially Singer's bosses. "Are you feeling better? Do you want to play with me?" She asked hopefully. "I can make another pillow fort, and we can hide inside and read stories and pretend we're in a lee-brary." She listed, then paused, looking thoughtful. "Or I can just bring the books here so you don't have to get up."

Somnia looked at the girl a little strangely. She didn't think it was possible for even herself to eat six pieces of toast, even if it didn't hurt. "I don't know about a pillow fort today, but reading sounds nice." the brunette replied almost cheerily.

"Okay!" Addie replied excitedly, running out of the bedroom. She ran to her and Iste's room and pulled her favorite books from the shelf, making sure to take ones she thought Somnia would like. There was one about raccoons going to school, another about a magical princess warrior with a flying horse, and her encyclopedia of animals, mostly for the pictures.

Returning, she climbed up carefully on the bed and set the books on her and Somnia's laps. "This is my favorite;" She gestured at the book with the warrior princess. "Mom reads this one too me when I'm sad," She pointed at the Raccoon book then, and then looked at the last one. "And I want allllll the animals in here, but mom says we can't right now." She added, cheery as she told the other about her books. "Lets read the princess one. There's a freakin flying horse it's amazing omygosh."

Before they got anywhere, the door opened, and the young woman singer had mentioned entered into the main room, though was still unseen. "Adelaide! Where are you brat? Come eat your fucking lunch so I can leave!" She snapped. Addie immediately tensed, climbed off the bed and underneath it, making a shushing noise to Somnia.

The woman continued to shout angrily, slamming doors and cupboards as she went away at preparing food. After a few moments, she swung open the other bedroom, shouting for the girl. "Come eat it now or all you get is bread again!" Continuing down the doors until she reached Somnia's "Adala-" Her voice died off and her ruddy face went pale at the other laying in the bed. "Who're you?" She asked, a plate with a carelessly prepared cheese sandwich and single uncooked potato in hand. She was clearly ill, with dark rings under her eyes and a head of frizzled white hair despite her youth, and had an overall disheveled appearance.

Somnia smiled at the girl when she returned with the books, looking at them curiously. She was looking over the others shoulder, rather interested about the flying horse, when she heard someone else in the house. She looked up, alarmed and somewhat confused. She watched the little one crawl under the bed, uncertain whether or not she should follow. She blinked at the woman uneasily. This could not be the same lady that Singer had been talking about. "uhhhhh"

"That's mommy's friend and she's nicer than you Kipa!" Addie shrieked from under the bed, the words clearly meant to be hurtful, though came out more afraid than anything.

The woman stepped back, looking between confused and worried. If this was Singer's friend, the other would likely have something to say about that. She backed up quietly, nodding and shutting the door, panicking inwardly.
She came back after a while with a properly cooked grilled cheese sandwich with pickled vegetables and a glass of chocolate milk on the side, setting it down for Addie and hesitating, looking at Somnia with something of a pleading expression. "Did you want anything?" She asked, though couldn't help noticing the other was ill too. Maybe she would understand her hatred towards Singer and the girl, and not recount her treatment of Addie to the mother, but she was still looking terrified that she'd been caught.

She looked down to the edge of the bed when addie shouted, rather surprised. Wasnt the little one trying to hide?
She watched the woman leave, leaning over the edge of the bed to look at Adelaide. "Are you okay?" She asked the girl worriedly before the lady came back.
"no thank you. "She responded to the strange lady, somewhat afraid of her.
