Sliet watched the boy carefully, unsure of how to behave around other people. She knew what might happen if anyone were to find out about them, but what all could she do while still keeping her secret. She reached over, gently lifting the boy up onto the crate. "There you go." She muttered, keeping an eye on him.

He look at her in surprise as she set him down on the crate. "Thank you." He chirped, swinging his legs in the large space between him and the floor of the carriage before pulling them up beneath his his large coat and wrapping his arms around his knees.
"I'm Raben. I'm three." He added informatively, holding up four fingers before correcting himself and holding up two.
Maybe he should tell her everyone else's names too, so she didn't get confused.
"That Mark and Jake. They...." He held up his hands again, trying to count before looking up at Sliet and shrugging. "Too mamy numbers."
"Mom, Daddy." He added, looking over at them. "This is Daddy's scarth." He held out the old thing around his neck proudly, trying to think of other things to tell his new friend.

As they continued on, Mark looked back. "There's people moving around on the road up ahead. Get the weapons ready and hide our things." Jake had pulled up a hunting rifle from his side.
Kathrine looked at Sliet and up the road warily.
"If things get rough, we need to get out of here, understand?" She whispered to the younger girl. "We cant risk getting hurt or caught."
Josephe threw tarps over their things quickly and Kathrine got up to help.
Marya armed herself quickly with a knife before pushing crates to the side to help get them under the tarps.
"Marya, just- stay back alright? you aren't in any shape to fight." Josephe said softly. He knew the other was tired from the road, not to mention expecting another child, that coupled with her recklessness worried him.

Raven, trying to avoid everyone's feet as they hurried around, moved over to cling to Sliet, who seemed to be the only one staying relatively still. He looked around in worry, something was very wrong.

Sliet listened to the small boh quietly, content to hear more of whatever he wanted to say.
She looked up atentively when one of the men up front turned around, watching him grab the gun and steeling herself for a fight if that's what it came to, she knew she could handle herself. She looked at the other indignantly as she was told what to do if there was indeed a fight. No, she didn't understand. They were supposed to help people, and these people had even helped them. Even if her or Katherine were to get hurt, they would be fine, and she was pretty sure she knew etter than Katherine how bad it would be if they were captured, it had been a long time ago, and that time was more of a blur, but she still remembered it. There was no way she was going to run from this.
She watched Katherine with a defiant expression as the boy clung to her, not bothering to look down at him. She stroked his hair gently, quietly shushing him. "Easy now. It's going to be okay." She whispered to him, trying to calm him down. Of course it was going to be okay. She would be sure of it.

As the carriage pulled up to where five or six men and women were standing, Jake kept the horse going at the same pace, even as the strangers moved out into the road to block their path.
The individuals were ratty looking; gaunt, with scrapped together clothes and patched skin and hair, each holding some sort of threadbare firearm.
A woman with red and white streaked hair stood at the front of them.
"Would you care to aid a few desperate travellers?" She asked, her voice hoarse and weary. "We could use some food and bedding, if you would be so kind, we'll gladly let you on your way."
Mark watched them angrily, waving his rifle. "We don't have anything for you infected backwater, shove off before we catch your disease or we'll ride over you."
Jake caught his arm; he didn't have any friendly feelings toward the ill, either, they were disgusting, but insulting them right now was a bad idea.
The woman, with those behind her, aimed her weapon. "Get out now, and maybe we'll let you walk home. Now."
"I'm not giving anything to you, why don't you go curl up and die on the roadside, do us a favor, would you lady?"
Kathrine caught Sliet's hand, her eyes cold. "We're leaving, n-" Her voice was cut off as a gunshot rang out and Mark tumbled back limply into the cart, his face bloodied from the shot.
The others stepped and stumbled back in horror, and Raven let out a terrified scream at the sight of the dead man as blood splattered on his coat, holding tighter to Sliet.
"Oh my god-" Jake backed up, letting go of the reins and reaching for the gun and failing.
Another shot went off and he barely ducked in time before scrambling after Mark's dropped gun, before reaching over and firing at the lead woman.
Josephe stood and took aim, firing twice with his pistol before crouching and getting off the carriage to fight where he could.
Marya hunkered down low on the carriage floor.

Sliet was about to argue with Katherine, despite how much she disagreed with what the man was saying, when he was shot. Her heart sped up at the sight of him, she knew it was too late, she couldn't help him, but she still sat there motionless for a second as Raven screamed, suddenly unsure if she could survive that. She shook herself out of her daze, wrenching her hand from Katherine and holding onto Raven tightly, she pulled him off of the crate and setting him down next to his mother. "Stay here." She warned him seriously, before jumping off of the wagon herself.she ducked to the opposite side of Josephe, peeking around the edge to figure out what she could do without a weapon.

Kathrine swore, leaping off the carriage and ducking. She doubted she would be able to pull Sliet away without getting them both really hurt, and while she knew the girl would survive a bullet wound or two, she was still terrified, but if they got out of this, Sliet was going to be in for it. As the same time, she doubted the little girl understood the gravity of this situation for both sides. "Sliet, I need you to listen to me, this fight isn't our place to decide-" She was cut off as more gunshots went off.

The woman shouted to her friends, keeping everyone organized as they took cover and fired at the six left on and around the carriage.

“Don't let any of them run off, if they get back to the Federation we'll have a rifle team after us!” She ordered, jerking down her arm and cutting the reins and ties to free up the horse. They could round it up after, but for now she had to keep them from escaping.
Several rounded the carriage to encircle it, while one man climbed up onto he carriage and took aim at Marya and Jake, who were now at his feet.

Josephe, at the back of the carriage, fired first.
The man stumbled with the shot and fell painfully forward, catching himself and attempting to aim again.

Marya promptly scrambled off of the carriage, she beckoned to Raven to fallow but was grabbed from the side by another, and found herself with a knife at her throat.

Josephe took a step forward and hesitated, eyes wide with horror, before being struck hard in the back of the head with some sort of metal bar and falling to the ground.

Jake had managed to take cover, but several of the others rushed around the side and he was only able to put his hands up in surrender.

Raven remained still, terrified as both Sliet and Marya left him among the crates, he inched back from the wounded man in front of him with the pistol who hadn't yet noticed the little one.
As he heard Josephe shout out and looked over to see the other fall, he scrambled up, not thinking in his sudden fear for Josephe. "Daddy! Da-" His second cry was muffled by the startled man's gunshot.

The woman with the red hair aimed at Sliet and Kathrine as she stepped around the other side of the carriage. "Hands up, merchants." She warned aggressively.

Sliet watched the others in horror, unable to do anything from where she was. She looked up in shock at ravens cry, feeling as though she was going to be sick. She stood there, frozen in place for a moment until the woman spoke. She clenched her shaking fists and grit her teeth as she slowly turned to the woman, glaring at her with a mixture of anger, frustration and pain. She was the cause of this. She growled a second before lunging for the other, pushing the gun away so it was pointed towards the sky and punching her squarely in the nose with a satisfying crunch before ripping the gun out of her hands altogether and throwing it away. She was great with hand to hand combat. She could incapacitate others with relative ease depending on the situation, but she didn't like guns much, they did far more serious and permanent damage.

“SLIET!” Kathrine shouted in anger and worry, leaping up to go to the other's aid as the rest of the bandits became suddenly trained on her, though distracted for a few seconds. She felt two bullets hit her but was barely effected.

The woman staggered, taken aback as the little girl effectively injured and incapacitated her. As she fell for a second, Kathrine but a bullet through her neck before she could get back up.

Jake managed to overcome the three around him, smashing one hard enough in the head with the back of his gun to take him down, and shooting another. The last crumpled to his knees with his hands up in surrender.

Jake marched towards Marya's attacker as the woman struggled and wailed for Josephe to wake up, to help. The theif with the knife backed up, threatening Jake to back off before he suddenly dropped, Kathrine's bullet in his head.

The last remaining one, who'd been in the cart with Raven, managed to scramble off, despite his wounds.

Kathrine breathed hard, taking in the situation.
Mark and three of the bandits were dead.
One was gone, and two, including the woman, were more or less wounded and on the ground.
Josephe and Raven were down, while her, Jake, Marya and Sliet seemed alive enough. She hadn't wanted to fight these people, but with sliet, it hadn't been a choice. They had to get out of here before they were found out when her wounds started to heal, there wasn't another option.

“Sliet. We need to go.” She hissed again, her hands shaking. She didn't want to leave these people to suffer, but if they healed them...

Sliet swayed where she stood, a little overwhelmed by the events. She turned when Katherine spoke to her, looking over the other in growing panick, trying not to cry as she looked at the blood, steppping up to Kat and patting where the injuries had been to make sure she was okay. Even once she was sure though, she didn't feel much better. She stopped again once her mind started to catch up to her. "Raven..." she whispered before scrambling unsteadily up onto the wagon, searching for the small boy among the crates. She let out a breath when she finally found him alive, moving quickly to try and repair the wound.

Kathrine looked at the girl quietly, noticing how shaken up she was. She'd grown so used to violence that it was nothing to her, but Sliet... "It's alright Sliet." She told the other uncertainly as the little girl touched her wounds before running off.
Oh god, not again. Having given up on dragging sliet off at this point, she kept an eye on the bleeding woman before reaching down while the others were focused and numbing the other, pushing her consciousness away before sealing the wound at her neck with a touch and leaving her there.
The remaining man took off as soon as he had the chance, and Jake let him go, going over to where Marya was going hysterical over Josephe's still body. Kathrine headed over, doing her best to distract the group from Sliet and the child, as confused as she was that no one had checked to see if their toddler was alright, and bent down to Josephe. He had a laceration along the back of his head and at most a concussion, but he'd live. She rubbed Marya's shoulders, trying to get her to calm down. "Shhh, it's going to be okay, he's alive, it's okay." She repeated, as Jake tended to the injured man.

Raven sat relatively still against the crate, already starting to go into shock. He watched Sliet with glazed, teary eyes as she went over to him. "I'm okay." The little boy sniffled bravely, as if trying to assure himself as much as he was Sliet. Taking a shallow, whimpering breath and holding his hands over the gaping hole in his chest. "Hurts." He added waveringly.
As she went to heal the wound, he trustingly clasped her coat with small, blood stained hands, searching for some security in all this terror.

"I know" she said when he told her it hurt. "Just give it a second." She finished before numbing it, tense as it closed far too slowly for her tastes. Once she was done she hugged the boy tightly, just glad he was alive. "There. All better. " she whispered, happy to have something to hold onto right now.

Jake eventually hauled Mark's body from the cart, swearing and cursing in anguish, calling his dead friend an idiot and emotionally exhausted.
"We need to go. Before more of them come back." He spat bitterly, covering Mark's face and upper half with his coat on the roadside. He wanted to properly bury his friend rather than leave him in the field to rot pr taken by the wild dogs, but he wasn't willing to wait on the path long enough to get shot at again.

Kathrine and Marya hauled a now- Half conscious Josephe onto the other side of the carriage.
Kathrine was uneasy; no one had noticed the blood on her shirt yet, but she was worried. She pulled her jacket closed and buttoned it up to hide the now-sealed wounds.
Marya tended to Josephe, apparently oblivious to her child for the moment. Kathrine looked at the dark haired girl pleadingly. "Sliet..."

Raven blinked quietly as the pain went away and the little girl held him. He didn't get a lot of hugs, but it felt nice. He felt less afraid. Safe. He nestled passively in her arms, clinging to her coat with a death grip, the shock still overwhelming his small, trembling body.

Sliet looked at Katherine over her shoulder, carefully pulling the little boy away from her. "Raven, I need you to keep a secret for me okay?" She asked him quietly, keeping her voice down so that only he could hear. She had to make sure the others never figured out what she'd done, but she couldn't tell Raven the whole truth either. "You see, I'm magic, thats how I helped the pain go away. But you can't tell anyone about that or else they'll come and take me away and hurt me. Allright? " she asked him, still shaky but she could at least think straight now.

*Back to the future *
Sliet watched Pel, a little uneasy, having trouble concentrating fully. She understood why Pel wanted to learn these things, shejust had no idea how to tech them. Maybe if she were to understand what exactly it was she was doing better? "Numbing is a bit easier. " she told the other patiently, reaching gently for Ravens hand again. "You just shut down the nerves in the area you want." She instructed, doing just that as she spoke, numbing his hand again.

Pel listened to the other and nodded. "A-alright." Easier was a releif. Besides, how badly could she mess up numbing? She reached over and took Raven's hand from the dark haired girl. She moved her hands up to his wrist, and tried to think of making the nerves stop.

Raven let his hand be taken, quietly watching the two as Sliet instructed Pel. When the girl took his wrist, looking a little more calm, he held still, patiently waiting for the numbing, or something, to start. What happened wasn't exactly numbing. He felt sudden, intense pain start at his wrist and pool in his finger tips before rocketing up his arm, down his spine and through his chest in fragments of a second. He grit his teeth so hard he felt one of them crack and held back a muffled scream, catching Pel's wrist out of instinct to stop her and pulling back. He stumbled and fell when she let go of him, clutching his chest, and bending over a little, struggling to breath as his heart slowed and thundered and slowed painfully.

Pel cried out in shock, stepping away as Raven fell back, holding her own wrist in shock and looking horrified.

Sliet watched as Raven fell back, only her eyes betraying her shock. "hold on. I've got this." she said tensely, reaching for his neck and working to bring his heartbeat back to normal. She looked between the two others once shed fixed the problem. "Maybe we should take a break?" She said, hoping that that would help, and that Pel wouldn't be too worried about hurting Raven to try again.

Raven jerked as her felt a hand touch his neck, looking up quickly and locking eyes with Sliet for a second, his breath quick. He looked away again, certain enough that she wasn't going to hurt him. He felt weird sensations through his chest and veins his heart forcibly slowed, but felt relieved. "Th-thanks." He got out softly, before looking to Pel.
Both nodded quickly at the offer of a break.

Raven got up with the other's help, but looked at Pel in concern. "I-I'm sorry- did I hurt you?" He asked fearfully, reaching out to check her arm where he'd grabbed it in his panic.

Pel shook her head, less worried about her wrist and more about what she'd done. The skin had bruised rapidly, turning black before starting to fade and disappear as she quickly healed, but it hardly hurt.
"Oh. Oh shit. Pel, I-" He started, feeling sick to his stomach as she showed him her arm before letting it drop to her side. "It's nothing." She added, though couldn't sound very confident with how shaken up she felt. What was wrong with her?

Sliet observed uneasily, unsure of what to do with herself now.after that she was almost positive that the other had data missing. It could probably be helped, but not by her, and not here. "I think there's something missing from your system. " she said to Pel as she stood. "Otifer should be able to help with that once you get to the station. " she told the other, before turning to the dark haired boy. "And as for you, i knew you could take a hit kid, but damn. Do you even still have that scar?" She asked him incredulously, pointing to the center of her chest where the boy she'd known had been shot, amazed that the boy hadn't screamed like even she probably would have.

Pel looked at the other quietly. She felt immense releif when the other explained that she might be able to be fixed. At least she knew what was wrong now. Maybe it wasn't her just being stupid.

Raven glanced up as Sliet mentioned a scar, seeming almost impressed. He touched his chest where she pointed in confusion. Scar? Which one? How did Sliet know he had scars on his chest. When and how had Sliet even seen him naked? Oh god, had she? He grew slightly embarrassed and confused. "Uh, wh-which scar?" The boy asked. He certainly had some, but was more worried about how she knew.

Pel looked at the two with just as much curiosity.

"You know, the one right in the middle from when you were a kid." She said simply, though she guessed she couldn't blame him if he didn't remember. It had been a long time ago, and he'd been very young. "Bandits on the road one day. You got hurt bad. I thought you were a gonner at first. Probably could've wrapped your entire body in that scarf, it was so huge on you. You were a cute kid." She said, thinking back rather fondly now, even though she'd hated it for a long time. She hated a lot of thjngs about that day, but he had nothing ti do with any of them.

Raven looked even more perplexed at this point, blinking. "I... I'm sorry, I don't think I remember... On the road?" He remembered what he had been told in the prison; that he wasn't a citizen. And, the familiar feeling he'd had heading out into the settlements, the smell of clover. He had tried to piece together his fragments of memories before but it never really seemed work out. There was so much he'd tried to push back and forget. River and Roslyn, the slums, the bombings, his parents. He swallowed at the unpleasent thoughts, but tried to think back to when he'd seen Sliet before, when he'd been hurt before the federation.
He remembered his scarf; He'd been cold, huddled between his dad and mother; and Josephe had taken off the old scarf and wrapped it around his neck. He remembered the smell and warmth of his father on the cloth.
He wanted badly to ask the other where and when she'd met him before. Why she had thought he was going to die, when he remembered so little about those fuzzy few years. "Could you... could you tell me more? I-I'm really not sure." He asked meekly.

"It was a long time ago..." Sliet said thoughfully, trying to remember the details of what exactly had happened. "Katherine and I were going looking for things we could use when we ran into you guys. there was you, your parents and a couple of other guys... I think it was your mom that offered us a ride. odd woman, but i gess everything seemed odd at that point, hadn't really been around people that much. Don't know where you were going, didn't pay enough attention to the conversations to find out. You seemed to be the only one interested in talking to me anyway." she explained, pausing for a moment before continuing. "Anyway, there were some bandits on the road, kinda feel bad for them now, i guess, but I definitely didn't then. There was a fight. a few people died, including one of the guys you were travelling with. Your dad got hurt I guess, but you got shot. not that anybody besides me noticed."She said rather bitterly. "it was bad. you were just so small. I managed to heal you without anyone noticing though. they were all preoccupied. but then Katherine and I had to go before anyone noticed anything weird." She finished, seeming to zone out. "how old did you say you were?" She asked herself, trying to remember the number. She remembered something about three, but there was also something about two and four as well. A lot of what had happened directly before the fight seemed blurred. It HAD been a long time ago, and shed been much younger too.

Raven listened quietly, a little astounded by her recount of things. It wasn't that he didn't believe her, he just felt as if he would have remembered something as significant as happening to him. He nodded at the the man being shot. "Mark. My dad told me about him." He replied softly. He wasn't sure what to feel when she mentioned that she'd healed him when the others hadn't taken notice. He wondered quietly if his mother would have let him bleed out. She hadn't seemed to take much notice of him or of the twins when Josephe wasn't around, except for the minimal nurture she was expected to give, but he wanted to hope she had at least cared for them in some way.
As she asked his age, he hesitated for a moment, thinking he lost track of time trying. "I... I'm almost 15... It's November, right?"
"It's two weeks from January, idiot. Your birthday was a couple days ago. I was going to tell you, but I would have had to give you a present." Pel broke in.
He glanced at her with a sudden, betrayed expression. "Pel-?!"
She hesitated, looking away from him awkwardly. "Annyway.."
Raven puffed. "So, wait.. were the twins there? I was two when they were born." He replied, looking back to Sliet.

Sliet raised an eyebrow at two as she watched their exchange with amusement. "No, there were only seven people were on the wagon, including me and Katherine." She said simply, shaking her head. Twins? Did Raven have siblings, or other friends maybe? She decided it was best not to ask.

Raven nodded, looking down. "Two, then, I-I'm sorry I don't remember." He replied, glancing at the dark haired girl. "I g-guess I should thank you." The boy added.
He had so much more he wanted to ask; what his parents had been like, if she knew where in the settlements he had come from, but he didn't want to pester her, and figured she wouldn't know a lot of that information anyway.

Pel went quiet when he mentioned the twins. She'd never met them, but remembered him wandering in the rubble, no more than four or five, looking for them for weeks.
