After a moment, Sliet, released his hand and continuued down the line to finish going through her pilemof files, asking some questions, and getting others to do various things to test their fitness levels and other such things until they were done. She sighed oh her way to the gates, more than a little relieved to be getting out of here.

As they left, Harir approached Sliet in order to walk next to her, and glanced over at his captain hesitantly. He didn't want to question her in front of the other captains, so he spoke softly. "Erm, you made some... interesting contributions to the recruit forces today..." He said, looking in the other direction.

Harir hesitated, glancing back at her. "I don't mean any offense, Captain, but some of those kids aren't going to live through training, let alone in the field, and a lot of them had records of disloyalty to the state. Aren't you worried that they might be disobedient of half-hearted?" He asked in a calm voice. "And, well, the hand shake and the friendliness. We aren't supposed to be these kids friends. I- just, the other Captains seemed a little uncertain about things."

Sliet looked at the other as though she knew something he didn't. "Those are the ones that have been to hell and back. If they could survive here, they can survive training. And there is no way they would risk repearing their crimes, no matter what the were and risk ending up right back here."she started, speaking as though it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Ive also found that if you are kind to someone when no one else is, they trust you a lot more and become extremely loyal. And as for the handshake..." she paused, stopping and extending her hand to the dark haired boy. "You can learn a lot from a handshake. Care to try?" She challenged coolly.

"They don't end up back here if they repeat their crimes. We kill them." Harir stated grimly. "The life restrictions don't apply to them when they're out in the field. They are sent here to be of some use rather than being executed and wasted in this place." Where exactly had Sliet been transferred from again? She seemed a little unfamiliar with things worked here. As she offered her hand to shake, he tried not to eye her too questioningly. He clasped her hand to shake hesitantly.

Uh oh. She didn't know that, just another thing that could get her into trouble. She gripped his hand tightly as they shook, not quite tight enough to hurt. It was more difficult than she had anticipated as his hand was fairly larger than hers. "There, see? I learned you think I'm crazy. Were here to make alies, not enemies. " she said rather coldly. "Now come on. Lets get out of here. Oh, and if you ever hesitate like that on me when it matters, I will beat the shit out of you."she added Quietly so none of the others could hear, then turned and headed for the gates once more.

Harir paused as she threatened him, a little shocked and indignant, before hurrying to keep up with her. He didn't say anything after this, a little annoyed. He didn't think she was crazy, but he was certainly a little curious about what was going on up there.

-----------------Le much later---------------

Harir woke up to the sound of barking dogs. They were trained to bark for a few reasons; fire, an impending attack of either machinery or nano machinery, or on instinct, at wild animals. He got up from the cot quickly, grabbing his coat and lighting the small oil latern. Some of the other captains and lieutenants were waking up as well, but he noticed Sliet was gone. He felt both worry and frustration- if she was out there and something was going on, she was in danger. He slipped out of the tent before one of the captains could give him an order.
The icey wind whipped against his face as he hurriedly slung his coat around him, looking around. "Captain? Leloup?!" He called, shielding his face somewhat. He turned the light on the dogs, who were throwing themselves against their collars in the direction of the slope that led up to the ravine. He looked out over dark area, and noticed a set of hurried footprints in the snow. Sliets? What was she doing going up that way, and why were the dogs acting up?
Worried, he gathered a couple soldiers and another lieutenant and headed after the footprints, calling after the captain with growing concern and confusion. As they reached the Ravine near the bridge, he thought he saw her. "Leloup!?" He shouted against the wind.

(this is going to be short and sucky sorry)
Sliet held her coat up against the wind, hair whipping across her face as she hurried away from the camp. She had completely forgotten about the dogs on her way out, and now they only intensified her need to get as far away as possible. Having already been terrified, the supposed captain nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard her name called. She wheeled around, pale and wide eyed at the sight of the figures following her in the dark. They were quicker to wake than she had hoped. A knot of panic made itself known in her chest, only serving to speed her steps as she turned and stumbled through the snow for the bridge as fast as her feet would carry her.

Harir, catching up to what was indeed his captain on the bridge, moved quickly enough that the others with him had to struggle to keep pace with him. "Captain; Where are you going?!" He called after her, stepping out onto the bridge. It rocked slightly in the wind as the other soldiers fallowed him out onto it. They were only a couple small recruits, and the bridge had held earlier when the army had crossed it, but with the wind he felt concerned. He hesitated as he got near to Sliet, not understanding what she was doing. He felt very suspicious and wary, and so did the recruits, by the look of them.
Another captain was heading there way, shouting something.

Sliet slowed and gripped the cable to the side to steady herself.  she looked back over her shoulder as the shouts grew clearer. The dark haired girl backed in the direction she had been heading slowly,  not wanting to turn her back on the soldiers. She xould hear metal creaking behind her but it was mostly drowned out by the wind and the yelling. She fixed the soldiers in front of her with something close to a glare that was half fear, half defiance and anger. There wasn't a chance in hell she was going to get caught. She knew to much about both sides to be captured by the federation now, and even if they didn't know what she had been doing right now, it wouldn't take them long to figure it out.

Harir hesitated, confused by Sliet's look of anger and fear. Was she angry at him? Scared of the bridge? He reached out slightly before remembering himself. "Leloup?" He asked uncertainly. She wasn't armed as far as he could tell, but yet there was hostility there. He started to fit the pieces together, and felt disturbed. She was out here in the middle of the night, sneaking away to who-knows-where alone. He swallowed, growing tense and hoping for anything else. She hadn't given an answer and was still trying to get away. If one of the ill soldiers had strayed off like this they would have been shot on sight for deserting. "You should come back, we aren't supposed to be out here." He warned. She was his commanding officer, yes, but if she was deserting then he felt it more important to give her a last chance to save herself before it became obvious to the other captains what she was doing, rather than stand idly by not speaking unless spoken to or even calling the alarm on her. As angry as he felt, he didn't want her hurt- especially if it was a misunderstanding. Captain Dumont had gotten near to the bridge now, as well as a few other soldiers, but before he could react the bridge was hit hard by a burst of wind, and a deafening snapping sound echoed through the air as the bridge resonated deeply. A sharp whipping noise fallowed and the slippery metal beneath his feat tilted.

Sliet cried out as the world seemed to fall out from under her. Her head hit the bottom hard, the metal digging into her ribs savagely as her hands scrambled for something to hold onto,  but they just slid off of the icy metal. And then she was falling. Everything slowed down for about two seconds.  She could feel the cold wind, hear it roaring in her ears as the air rushed by. She could see some of the others that had been on the bridge falling too. She noticed all of this before she reached the water, and  it hit her like a brick wall. The force of the impact, even in the liquid, nearly knocked the wind out of her and the shock of the cold almost made her inhale the frigid water. Her arms thrashed, pushing her way to the surface and gasping for air.

Harir was launched forwards as the bridge seemed to give. He grabbed instinctively onto the metal-cord railing to catch himself, and he felt blinding pain as his shoulder was wrenched before he could no longer hold on. He seemed to fall through air before another pieces of metal let go and smashed into his side.
He saw nothing until he plunged into the freezing water. His eyes shot open in the dark murk for a moment and he struggled to move before it overwhelmed him and everything went black.

Sliet worked her arms hard to keep her head above water, her uniform weighing her down and trying to pull her under. In her struggles she caught a glimpse of one of the other soldiers who had fallen in, though she couldn't be certain who it was, it definitely looked like Harir. She pushed her way through the water, grabbing the back of their jacket with one hand before they could be swept under the ice. She struggled her way towards the shore, desperately trying to kep both hers and the lieutenant afloat. She dragged him up onto the shore along side her before collapsing herself, her drenched clothes feeing as though they weighed a ton. She lay there for a moment before letting unconsiousness take its hold with the wory that she may have just nearly drowned to try and rescue a dead man, and the assurance that she would likely either wake up feeling muchx better, or she wouldnt wake up at all.

FW Part: One - Page 2 Empty Re: FW Part: One

Post by Deathcap Wed May 20, 2015 10:52 pm

Harir opened his eyes to painful morning light and drew in a sharp breath. He tried to clamber up immediately and almost fell over again before catching himself. Glancing around at the rocky, wet surroundings, the night before started to come back to him. He suddenly looked around quickly, and noticed Sliet washed up near him. She wasn't moving. He felt a pang of alarm and started towards her. "Capt-" He broke off as more memories hit him. She had been trying to desert. They'd all fallowed her out there just as the old bridge has started to come apart with the wind, and now most, if not all of them were dead because she'd decided to run off. It was just as well she was dead.
But did he believe that? He couldn't turn away from her and it hurt to see her just laying there still like that.
He swallowed, holding his ruined shoulder and not sure what to do.
He took another step forward and then froze when he saw her breathe.
She wasn't dead, then. At first he felt a mix of relief and frustration, but tried to push the feeling down. It wasn't right. She'd abandoned her duty. The price for that was death. He couldn't ignore that, could he, after all this damage she'd caused?
After a few conflicted minuets he steeled himself and drew his hand gun, walking up to her. He aimed at the former captain, his good arm trembling, but it took him too long. Harir starred down at Sliet with what he desperately wanted to be hate. He should hate her, after what she'd done, he knew that, it should have been easy.
But it wasn't.
Swearing loudly he returned the gun to it's holster and walked away from her. He kicked the wet sand and gravel hard, looking up out of the Ravine, but they weren't anywhere near close to the bridge anymore.

Heading back, he decisively pulled Sliet farther up the shore and laid her on his damp coat in the snow. If she had laid there for too long she would freeze, and he was shivering now as well, but everything he had was soaking wet, if fact, his handgun was probably too wet to even fire, the piece of junk that it was.
He sat down near her on the coat, and drew his legs up to his chest, resting his arms over his knees and putting his head down. He was disappointed and uncertain of what to do anymore.

Sliet groaned and stirred as she slowly came back to conciousness. Her eyes fluttered open and she squinted at her surroundings confusedly. How had she gotten here? Where even was here? And why was it so damn cold? She sat up quickly , her memories of the night before returning in sharp, painful detail. She hissed as her sore ribs moved, though most of the damage was healed already. She looked around her , now fully awake, but hesitated when she saw Harir. She watched him warily, weighing her options. She couldn't exactly just get up and walk away. Could she? She shifted her weight noticing the coat beneath her for the first time. She blinked at it, surprised before glancing back at her... well former lieutenant she supposed now. She couldn't just get up and leave. That was certain. She felt guilty for dragging him into all of this, and she was rather fond of him, well, more fond of him than she was any of the other soldiers anyway. She contemplated what to say carefully, feeling rather awkward with the situation. "So... umm.. your still alive then."she gently, afraid to say something wrong and have him react negatively.

Harir noticed her stir and glanced at her, but didn't move or speak. What was he supposed to do now anyway? Crawl back to the company with a wounded arm and no captain? Admit that if he'd thought and acted faster maybe he could have prevented this from happening? Just let the other get away with deserting because he'd let his feelings cloud his thoughts?
When she spoke, he was quiet for a moment before giving a slight nod. He wanted to ask her what she had thought she was doing, and how she could be so casual about this now. Ask rudely if the other soldiers that had fallowed him out were alive too.
He knew he should have felt angry, but he'd brunt all his rage out trying to work up the nerve to pull the trigger.
"Why?" He asked simply. Why had she done this. Why was he alive. Why was he unable to feel the way he should about this. He didn't really care how she answered. He wasn't sure he wanted one, either. Instead he changed his question. "Are you hurt?"

Sliets expression quickly transitiones from aprehension to pity as the other nodded. She gritted her teeth at his first question, wanting to tell him everything right there and then, it had been a long time since shed had anyone to talk to and be completely honest with, but that was sensitive information that was dangerous not only to those who knew it, but those back at the station as well. She blinked curiously as he changed his question. "No. Not anymore. " she saId simply. She wasnt about to volunteer all of the details, but she wasn't about to lie to him either.

Harir was quiet for a moment, then nodded again and stood up. "Where to then, Captain?" He asked tiredly. He couldn't go back, and he couldn't hurt her, and if she wasn't injured then there was no sense waiting around. He wasn't sure how he felt about going wherever she was, but it was a start, he supposed. He guessed it was incorrect to call her Captain now, but he was used to that, rather than her first name, and he was still fallowing her, after all, as conflicted as he felt.

Sliet frowned at his words. "I'm not your captain. " she said flatly. She hated being called that. "The nearest village we can find i guess, preferably before we freeze to death. " she answered uncertainly. /where i can leave you safe and keep going./ she thought . She had had a plan the night before, but that hadn't exactly woked out well, and she couldnt very well bring him back to the station, that was for sure. She would leave him at the next village and get back to the others as fast as she could.

"Who are you then?" He asked in response. He didn't mean it in a harsh way; he didn't know what to call her other than Captain, but his voice was still cold. She was definite about it then. He couldn't tell if she felt guilty, if she was angry for him fallowing her, or if she just didn't want him there. He considered calling her Captain just to be difficult; if she wasn't his captain then she couldn't tell him what to do, but he stayed silent.
He looked off down the river as she spoke about finding the nearest village. "GreenHill, it's a few miles that way." He muttered, not really wanting to be helpful.

Who was she? Sliet didn't know khow to answer that question. She didn't even sure anymore. Though for now she was more or less free, and that felt good. She pushed herself to her feet a bit shakilyl realizing she had been sitting on Harirs jacket. "i believe this belongs to you ". she said evenly, trying to be as patient with him as possible. "i guess we better get going then. Thats a lot of ground to cover on foot."

Harir took the jacket, looking at it before hesitantly slipping it back on. It felt wrong to put it back on now, after all this. He didn't deserve to wear an officers coat after he had had failed so miserably at loyalty to the federation. He didn't want to think about it; it was done now, he couldn't go back and he was just going to make himself angry over something he couldn't change. He realized bitterly that Sliet was all he had now, in an frustrating sort of way.
He walking along quietly, thinking over things, but felt himself getting more upset than resolving his mixed emotions.
When the settlement was within sight, he stopped suddenly. "Capt- Leloup," He corrected himself. "If we go in there in these uniforms, alone, they'll tear us apart." He said softly.
