Re: FW Part: One
Katherine laid with the other after cleaning things up a bit, staying with the girl to make sure she felt safe.
In the months after that, she tired to ask Sliet some things gently, but mostly just tried to let the little girl get comfortable, while bringing her around with her while fixing things and helping Otifer on his projects.
Eventually, she decided it was time to find Ruth. She had grown angry and confused at the other, and why she had left, but one thing was for certain; If she hadn't left, Terra would still be alive, and if Ruth had been captured, then they were all in danger.
She argued with Otifer for weeks about going to track down her former companion, but had finally convinced him and was really to leave.
She had her pack on and was waiting in the kitchen, getting the last of her things together and waiting to say goodbye to Sliet.

Re: FW Part: One
Sliet shuffled into the kitchen sadly, she understood Katherines reasoning, but the fact was, Katherine was leavint, and she didn't know for how long and that still bothered her. "Do you really hafta go?" She asked, still standing by the door, worried for the other, and maybe a little for herself. She was being left here with the old man after all, and though she wasn't scared of him or anything, at least not anymore, he was a little... odd.

Re: FW Part: One
Kathrine crouched down and hugged the little girl for a moment before pulling back to look at her. "I do have to go, but I'll come back. Otifer is going to take good care of you while I'm gone, and you be nice to him alright?" She said softly, ruffling the other's hair. After goodbyes, she said a quick one to Otifer as well before smiling at them and closing the door. She was going to fine Ruth, no matter what it took, and find out what was going on.
Otifer watched the other leave quietly. Kathrine and this little girl were all he had left, and while he knew the blonde could take care of herself, he was still scared to loose her. The restoration of the project was already in jeopardy, and if Kathrine didn't come back, he didn't know what he would do. He hobbled up to the little girl. "It's going to be alright. You'll see." He said as much to himself as to her, before he turned and wandered over to the kitchen again and started making a coffee.

Re: FW Part: One
Sliet watched the doors close sadly, already missing Katherine and wishing she could have gone too. She followed Otiferninto the kitchen silently sitting at the table and resting her chinmon the edge, pouting ans sighing perhaps a little overdramatically. When nothing happened she turned her head and sighed again, waiting a few seconds before turning to the old man. "Hey Otifer? Why is Kat's name 'Kat' if she's not a cat?" She asked him curiously, still confused even after all this time.

Re: FW Part: One
Otifer looked over at her. "Kat is a short version of her full name, Kathrine. It's an abbreviation, a nick-name." He stated, then paused for a moment. "If she told you to call her Kat, then she likes you." He added with a mutter, paying more attention to the packet of coffee substitute as he poured a boiling water ration into his cup.
Re: FW Part: One
Sliet looked at him in surprise, feeling a little bit betrayed. Kat wasn't her real name? She stared at otifer until he explained further, feeling better about it and smiling slightly. "Oh." She said simply, turning back to rest her head on the table. She stayed there quietly for a few seconds before turning to Otifer again. "Hey Otifer. Why is your hair all grey and stuff?" She asked this time, never really having noticed that much in other people.

Re: FW Part: One
Otifer took a sip of the coffee and let out a pained mumble when it burnt his tongue before looking back to the little girl again. "Hm? Oh. Everyone's hair starts to turn grey or white when they get older. The genes in our bodies that makes the pigment- the color, for our hair start to get old and stop working and so the hair still grows but it has no color anymore." He answered. He guessed the girl was going to have a lot of questions about things, she was at that age after all.
Re: FW Part: One
"Whoa."sliet breathed, wondering what other things wore out when you got old. "You're really smart. " she stated simply before returning to her thoughts. Whar colour was his hair before? Was that why Otifer used a cane? How old was he anyway? Her mind bounced around to several different subjects for a time until she remembered something from a few weeks ago and turned back to him again. "Otifer? "She said questioningly, blinking up at him. "Why does Kat have a picture of mommy? " she asked, wondering where she had gotten it.

Re: FW Part: One
Otifer smiled a little at how awed she was. He couldn't impress the others when they wouldn't listen to him talk. "Thank you, I like to think I am. I am a scientist you know." He paused at her question, a little shocked. "Your mother?" He thought for a second, then remembered Kathrine's photos of the expedition teams. He tried to recall the others. There was Terra, Ruth, Kathrine, Saul, Mira, and so many others who had been captured and destroyed. "Would you be able to show me the photo Sliet? I might be able to tell you more." He replied.
Re: FW Part: One
Sliet nodded, hopping out of her chair and running off to Katherines room, struggling a little bit with the door but managing it in the end. She scampered over to the chest, opening it and searching around for the smaller box. She didn't know why Katherine kept a smaller box of things inside a bigger box of things. Maybe she could ask Otifer that later. She quickly found the box, pulling out the picture she'd been looking for and running back to the kitchen to show the man. "See?" She asked, holding it up to him, up on her toes to try and reach higher.

Re: FW Part: One
Otifer bent down as much as he could to take the Photo from her. He looked at it quietly for a few moments, before heading over to a bench and sitting down, patting the seat next to him for her to sit down as well. He looked sort of glassy eyed, and did say anything for a moment. "Ah. I see now. Which one is your mother?" He asked. "She was on the same team as Kathrine, before the war happened." He started. "Would you like to hear about it?"
Re: FW Part: One
Sliet followed him over to the bench, climbing up next to him and looking over at the picture. She reached over pointing to the familiar woman at the edge of the group. She looked different, neater, her hair tied back tighter, but that smile was unmistakable. She watched in confusion as he started to explain. Kat had a team? what war? She nodded when he asked if she wanted to know more. "Please?"

Re: FW Part: One
Otifer nodded, passing the photo back to Sliet. "Well, before you were born, this world had huge cities, and... and so many people. There were huge cities and so much technology. Anything you could dream up, you could make. You could do anything." He said quietly. "Our planet though, as in the ground you walk on, is one giant piece of rock with life on it, floating through the sky. You know how when it gets dark? The stars? Well, each of those stars is a far-away sun, like the one we see from our planet. And around all those suns are other planets. Most are just cold windy rocks with nothing on them, but some, like ours, have plants and life. But we had so many people here on earth, that people were starving, and didn't have enough room, and our planet wasn't big enough any more, and it's sick; a lot of the animals we used to have are gone, and with so many people it was full of garbage and illnesses.
So, we wanted to fix that. A very smart woman founded a project to take a lot of people from this planet to a new one, very far away, where they would be able to live peacefully. She worked with a lot of people to build these buildings and the ships. They needed people who were stronger to operate the ships and take care of them and the people, so they trained many young, strong and intelligent people ad then equipped them with special technology so that they could do these things. Kathrine, and your Mother were some of those people. And you are as well Sliet. Sort of like how you have your mother's face- the technology that was in her body, is in yours now too. Maybe I can show you the ship." He added, thinking. He didn't want to be too harsh in his explination; she was only a little girl, but at the same time, it was fair for her to know after all she'd been through why people had treated her the way they had. "But, those people who had the technology, even though they didn't want to hurt anyone, were a new breakthrough. People saw them, even though they were in their early stages, as dangerous, and that the project was in control of super weapons. Our project was meant to help people, but with everyone fighting over reasources, it may have been the spark that started the war. They tried to arrest everyone and kill everyone who might be dangerous.
Some people ran away, like your mother, so she could be safe. Kathrine, Terra, I and Ruth managed to leave the station and go into hiding for a long time. When the war was over, a lot of people had died, and after this place was looted it was left and forgotten to rot. We came back, and have been trying to fix it, and to fix the ships, so we can go to that planet." He explained.
"As for the photo. Kathrine and Mira, your mother, knew each other. Kathrine loved her team, though most of them are gone now." He added sadly.

Re: FW Part: One
Sliet listened to Otifer quietly, watching him in awe at first. That was a lot of flashlights... and people... maybe they used some magic to make that many things. It startled her a bit when he told her that she had technology in her body. Technology meant machines right? Did that make her a robot? She didn't want to be a robot.
She quickly grew confused after that, why would anyone think that her mom was dangerous? She only ever hurt people that had hurt her or someone else first. Was that bad? And running away... that just didn't sound like her mother.
She seemed to get really excited at the end of his explination, practically bouncing in her seat. "Ooh, ooh ooh. Can I be on Kats team?" She asked enthusiastically

Re: FW Part: One
Otifer looked at her with a smile at her question. "Maybe. When you're older. You should ask Kathrine about that." He replied, though he was worried for Kathrine. She wasn't dealing with Terra's death well, and the only things that seemed to be keeping her going were caring for Sliet and her need for revenge against Ruth. She said she only wanted to find the other, which was indeed important, but he could see Kathrine easily launching into a conflict that wouldn't go her way.
Re: FW Part: One
"Yeah! " sliet exclaimed excitedly , giggling happily. She couldn't wait for that to happen. It would be awesome to be the one to make the rules and stuff instead of the one who follows them.she wanted to be just like her mom, but she would be careful not to share her fate.

Re: FW Part: One
As time went on, Otifer did his best to look after the small girl, but began to grow increasingly worried when Kathrine did not return. The year went by and winter came along, and while he continued to work on his projects, he started to feel like he was loosing hope, and began to grow fearful that Kathrine had been captured and that the data about the station had been extracted from her.
One night when he was sitting quietly, watching Sliet, he jumped at the sound of footsteps entering down the hall. He quickly stood and pulled down the shotgun at the top of the cupboards, ready to fight back if the wrong person had found them, and took aim at the open hallway door.
When Kathrine walked into view, he felt a mixture of releif and anger and shock, allowing the gun to sink to his side.
She looked much more weathered than before; dark circles ringed her tired eyes, her hair had grown long enough for her bangs to be in her eyes, her body was slimmer. She had a wind and bullet-torn cloak on and was packless except for a bundle in her arms.

Re: FW Part: One
Sliet watched fearfully as Otifer grabbed the gun, not havint noticed the footsteps. She jumped in fear as someone else stepped around the corner, so used to it being just her and the old man down here. It took her a moment to recognize the other, gasping when she finally did. "Kat! " she yelled, excited and enormously relieved to see her. She got up from where she'd been playing on the floor and ran over to her, hugging her legs tightly.

Re: FW Part: One
Kathrine knelt as Sliet hugged her legs, a little slow to respond, but wrapped the girl in a careful hug. "Hey Sliet, I missed you too." She spoke weakly, as if her voice was barely leaving her throat. Against her, a tiny child squirmed in the blanket she had it wrapped in. Wide blue eyes staired up at Sliet from a eerily gaunt face. Kathrine stood, turning to Otifer as he approached her.
"Otifer...This is.. this is Ruth's."
The old man paused as he saw the child.
"God, Kathrine." He didn't know what to think or ask, or what had happened. Had Kathrine killed her and taken this child? He hadn't known Ruth had been pregnant.
"I need your help Otifer. He's dying. Something's wrong with his tech; it didn't transfer right and he's not growing or absorbing energy normally, everything I put into him goes into heat rather than nutrition or growth, he just over-heats and starts gasping for air. The tech's keeping him alive but he's starving." She rattled off desperately.
Otifer looked at the child and then at her. "How did this happen, where's his mother?"
"Ruth died. She was stranded out in an abandoned cabin when she had him, but she'd been wounded. She got snowed in and had nothing to eat or recharge herself. He was getting weaker so she tried to manually give him energy and just kept feeding into him and it was too much for her."
"Why didn't you transfer her energy!? Kathrine, I know what she left you and terra, but-"
"You don't think I tried!? I gave her all I could and we headed to Greenhill. We had to leave in a snowstorm. She collapsed on the way and was gone before I could do anything!" She snapped at him, but was to tired to effectively shout.
Otifer was silent for a second, taking the child in his arms. "Come with me to the labs, I have an idea."
"Otifer...This is.. this is Ruth's."
The old man paused as he saw the child.
"God, Kathrine." He didn't know what to think or ask, or what had happened. Had Kathrine killed her and taken this child? He hadn't known Ruth had been pregnant.

Re: FW Part: One
Sliet held tightly to Katherine in worry, she didn't think she'd ever seen her this tired. When she pulled back, she looked at the bundle, meeting the babies blue ones with curious golds. Where had Kat found a baby? Had she rescued him too? That seemed to be what she did, saving kids and bringing them bqck here. That's what she had done with her after all. This little one didn't look too good though. She watched the two adults argue with confusion, unsure of what she should do.

Re: FW Part: One
Otifer led the way to the lab. Kathrine turned back for a second and took her hand. "Come on, it's alright, you can come with us." She said softly, though she was too tired to give the little one a piggyback as she normally did.
When they had arrived at the lab, Otifer set the child down in a safe cot and worked away at a large sort of screen. He went over the the child and gently took a hair, putting it into some sort of scanner. Kathrine watched him silently until he went to her and took a similar sample.
He worked away for a while, playing with what seemed to be programming and microchips and wires until he went over to another section of the lab and eventually came hurriedly back with a small syringe and connectors. He placed some against the child's body and soon everything was monitored along the screen. After he injected the child, the monitors buzzed and beeped for a while before settling our at a different level.
Otifer put his hand to his forehead, staring at the curiously mumbling baby. "I- I think that should work. I tried to complete his missing data with yours Kathrine." He muttered as he unhooked the child and wrapped him back up in the blanket. "We'll have to see." Kathrine looked at the man uncertainly.
Back in the apartment room, Kathrine waited for the child to eat, pressing her hand to his forehead periodically as she waited for him to start heating up again. When he didn't, and began sleeping quietly, she almost immediately passed out on the couch like area, slumping against the cushions as Otifer tended the child.

Re: FW Part: One
Sliet followed uncertainly watching Otifer work, curiously. She still had virtually no idea what was going on, and she wasn't about to ask. Both Katherine and otifer had seemed angry when theyd been talking before, and she didn't want to be caught up in that as well. She ended up sitting by Katherine until she'd fallen asleep, still worried about her, before shuffling over to Otifer to see the baby. "He's so small." She said quietly as to not wake up Kat, though she doubted anything could wake her up for a while.

Re: FW Part: One
Otifer nodded, smiling tiredly. "He's still very young. He'll get larger eventually." He replied. He was concerned what having a baby around would mean; they already had their hands full, not that he minded the child.

While they'd run into the carriage of people by accident, it would work to their advantage. Kathrine intended to head back to the irradiated Zone, so getting there by horse would save them a day or two. As she was helped up onto the open carriage by the strange woman, she reached out a hand to help sliet up as well before sitting next to the Woman, Marya, and her partner, a dark haired man.
The two other men were up front, driving, and a rather small child watched the two of them curiously. Kathrine waved in a friendly manner at the little boy, and he stared back at them for a few uncertain seconds with big eyes before smiling and giggling, then pushing the over-sized scarf up over his face shyly and turning away only to stumble and run into Sliet's legs.
"Raven." Snapped the woman, then looked at the two, muttering an apology as the little boy looked at her in confusion.

Sliet sat quietly, observing things around her curiously, intrigued by the strange people. She looked down at the small boy as he ran into her, smiling warmly at him. "Are you okay?" She asked softly, taking no notice of the woman, her atention span taken up by the small boy.

Re: FW Part: One
The little boy glanced from his mother to Sliet as the younger girl spoke. "I'm okay." He replied seriously; he hadn't fallen of the carriage this time, so he was alright. On another note, who were these people? He was excited at the idea of new people travelling with them; maybe they would want to be friends? The girl seemed friendly. He attempted to climb up on the crate, couldn't, and immediately ran over to Josephe.
"Up? Up Daddy?" He asked hopefully, stretching out his arms.
The man was speaking with Marya, and looked over for a second, ruffling his hair before turning his attention back to the other.
Raven giggled again when his head was patted, swaying a little under the other's strong arm, then looked up in confusion when his request was ignored. He puffed and ran back to the crate next to Sliet, trying again to scramble up.
