Nadia chased Mikel down the stairs, scrambling to where the figures had disappeared. She held tightly to her book, struggling to keep up.

Tirza kept as close to Martin as she could, struggling to keep her footing with how fast they were moving.

Martin focused on rushing ahead, trying to get out of sight before they were pinned down or cornered - a fight here, in the approaching sunlight, would be deadly. Barely having time to think, he lunged through the last trace of a shadow as it vanished down the side of a stone wall, seething and shutting his eyes tightly as the sunshine burned him like acid on his cold skin. He looked back then, to see Tirza just behind him, but on the other side of the quickly widening ray of sun.
"Tirza - quick now-" He urged, eyes wide as he caught sight of the hunters behind her, fighting his instinct to run. He tried to reach out his hand, to step back towards her, but could only back up as the light flooded over his boots and up his legs. He took a few sharp breaths, looking around for anything that could be done, but there was nothing. He met her eyes desperately for a moment, frozen, before the male hunter came at him from a side ally, blade swinging. He danced back, hoping only they would follow him and forget the girl, and took off at a run. Ill come back. I'll come back for you.

Mikel chased after the much faster creature, but as the other vanished into still-dark allys, he quickly became aware of the odds, and of Nadia no longer behind him, and returned quickly to find his wife with the other vampire.

Tirza skidded to a stop just to her side of the sunbeam, realizing the fresh danger. She reeled when she was left behind, scrambling to her feet to double back the way she came. She ducked around the second hunter nimbly, swearing she could feel her as she dashed by.

Nadia ran after the bunch, trying to keep up with her shorter legs. She flailed, sliding to a stop and redirecting with a frustrated groan at the retreating creature.

Tirza looked for any kind of escape, finding a door ins one of the alleys and trying to quickly duck in, only to be held back by some unseen force and repelled backwards.

"That's enough" Nadia growled at the vampire in the dirt, preparing some sort of spell in anticipation of the thing not heeding her words.

Mikel came running back, slowing his run and coming to a stop as he saw Nadia had things under control with the younger spawn, "Are you alright love? The elder escaped into the alleys." He informed apologetically as he approached. It wouldn't get far with this weather. He regathered the chain blade with a practiced motion as he stepped past his partner to stand over the vampire where she had struck it with some charm.
He quickly raised his blade to it's throat with a steady hand before it could pick itself up, keeping it at arms length but making it clear that things could end quickly.
"Any final words, vampire? Care to tell me where your companion fled to?" He questioned, on the chance it was vengeful enough to seal the fate of the one who had left it here.

Tirza looked up the blade at the man, terrified. "I-I dont know. I-" she choked out, trying to hold back a sob, feeling the tears well up in her eyes.

Nadia glared at the creature, refusing to fall for its trick.

Mikel knelt slightly, keeping a wary eye on the creature as he spoke, less certain as she began to cry - she seemed truly afraid, and he had to remind himself her appearance was only that of what she had once been. Still, he felt pity well up in his chest - Nadia was wiser than he.
"Why did you come here? Have you killed or bitten any person here yet?"

"We w-were running." She sobbed, the tears flowing freely. She shook her head emphatically, struggling to speak. She had never done it herself but she knew the old man had on her behalf.

Mikel cast an uncertain glance at Nadia as the young woman sobbed, lowering his blade but keeping it close .
"Breathe, now... Maybe we can work out an arrangement." He tried steadily.
Despite his better judgement, he wondered if they could find a way to spare her. He waited a moment to try and let her calm slightly before speaking.
"What is your name? How old are you? And if you haven't killed, what have you been eating?" He asked gently.

Nadia matched Mikels expression. Surely they couldn't just let her go. Even if she hadn't killed anyone yet she was still a danger.

Tirza swiped at the tears on her cheeks and tried to steady her breathing with measured success. "T-Tirza. I D-Don't know. He used to b-bring me bottles." She stuttered out, still struggling to stop sniffling.

Mikel shot Nadia a sympathetic glance, he knew what she was thinking, but he knew she had to feel some measure of pity for the girl as well. She certainly didn't seem like a capable killer of the night, and seemed to be telling the truth. He took the linen scarf from his hunter's cloak and pressed the cloth into her hand gingerly so she could wipe her face. As the sunlight crept closer up the cobble street, he hesitated, before unbuckling his cloak. "If what you say is true, and you are willing to work with us, we won't kill you, but you must cooperate, understand?" He questioned softly. "We cannot let people be hurt."

Tirza took the cloth gingerly, dabbing at her eyes. She nodded without really looking up at the hunters, still hiccuping as she shifted to be more comfortable on the ground.

Nadia bristled as her husband got uncomfortably close to the creature. Too close for his own safety. Nevertheless she tried to trust him, standing back at the ready. "Work with us how?" She asked him, voice low.

Mikel stood up a bit more. "Stay here for a moment, catch your breath." He told Tirza, before stepping back into the sun with Nadia, speaking softly to his partner while the vampire collected herself.
"There has to be something other than kill her... Look at her Nadia, she barely seems to know what she is. She's sobbing like Ros when she broke that little amulet. Perhaps we can arrange some agreement with her... vampires can subsist off other blood, can't they? I don't think I can put a stake in the poor girls heart, regardless of what's befallen her." He reasoned uncomfortably.

"In theory. How would anyone know. We dont exactly invite them in for tea and polite conversation. What if she can't?" She asked, trying to be pragmatic.

She looked around her husband at the pitiful creature on the ground, now stuck thinking of their younger residents. "I don't think I can either." She admitted softly, crossing her arms.

"We can at least try." He replied softly, returning to the girl with the cloak, and slowly, stepping forward, giving the cloth a flick as he reached over her so it rippled out in the air behind her before falling over her shoulders. He pulled the hood up as the sun crept closer. "It's alright. Don't attack us and we won't harm you. I am Mikel, this is Nadia, my wife. We... Well, we protect this town, from vampires, to try to protect folk from being preyed upon. Is... is that was happened to you? Did that one with you bite you?" He asked her calmly. "You seem... a lot more human than those we've fought before."

Tirza clutched at the cloak, pulling it tightly around herself. "What? No-no. He saved me!" She said defensively, leaning away from the man. "That was... that was someone else." She tried to explain.

Mikel watched her uncertainly, casting a glance back at Nadia. So there was another out there.
"Is that who you are running from? Are they near?" He asked. "Perhaps we could help with that."

Tirza shook her head. "No. He burned. I was running from you. " she explained calmly, not wanting to think of the old man.

Nadia picked at the spine of her book, the girls words making her feel somewhat guilty. "We should get moving before we're trying to get through busy morning streets. "

Mikel nodded to Nadia. "Lets head out to the edge of town. It should be shadier and less busy there." He agreed, and offered his hand to the girl to help her up, watching her carefully, trying to be kind, but still cautious.

Tirza took his hand hesitantly, pulling herself up. She felt very small next to Mikel as they started their way through town.

Nadia stayed close to the two, walking behind in an attempt to herd the vampire the way they needed her to go.

Mikel led Tirza out to the dappled shade of the forest. "I suppose, dear, that what we ask would be not to feed on humans... we do not want others to have the curse forced upon them, or for them to be hurt. Is there some way you could subsist off of other blood? I understand you must be very afraid, but if you can promise not to harm anyone... " Mikel was broken off, as from seemingly out of nowhere, the elder vampire sprung, wrapped up in some old curtain like a cloak, long blond hair flashing in the sun from beneath it as he drove the man to the ground, grappling with him and snarling fiercely. "Run!"

Tirza scrambled away from the commotion, fighting the urge to run. She didnt want any of these people to get hurt. "Martin stop!" She called out, badking herself up against a tree.

Nadia launched herself at the leech, throwing her shoulder into him in an attempt to push him off of her husband.

Martin, hand raised to strike the other, hesitated at Triza's cry, then tumbled, rolling to his feet as he was shoved, standing as straight as he could as he scrambled back in front of Tirza, fingers arced wide as he bared his nails like claws. He didn't dare to turn his eyes away from the two. "Leave us alone, she's just a girl." He spat hatefully. "She's not killed any of your little sheep. We're leaving this town. Don't you dare follow us." He told them coldly, but there was a hint of desperation in his voice. He knew he could easily escape them, but with Tirza, he'd be at a disadvantage, and he couldn't leave her again.

Mikel quickly got to his feet, stumbling slightly. He was getting a too old for this, he thought absently, and wondered why he'd been freed with so little a struggle.
