The dragon eased herself into the comfy looking bag, hunkering down so that her head poked out of the top. This was a good spot to sit, and she could smell something interesting in the bag. She nosed the blanket to the side a bit to dig down further into the pack, returning momentarily with a single coin, seeming fascinated with the object.

Raven watched her for a moment before carefully slinging the pack onto his back and heading out, closing the door as he did so and not looking back. He couldn't stay here, and he wasn't sure where he was going to end up, but headed back in the only direction he knew, towards home.

The dragon stuck her head out of the top of the pack, looking around from her comfy spot as the world moved around her, though the air soon crowed too cold for her and she ducked back inside. She soon fell asleep, the pack rocking her to sleep the the motion of Ravens footsteps. She repeated the process as they walked, occasionally poking her head out to survey their surroundings only to return to her slumber in the bag, snuggling up to her coin.

Raven left the crowded streets of the city quietly, shivering in the cold night air as they went. He walked in a single direction, lost in thought and guilt and fear for the future. He'd thrown away everything he'd known for the small creature in his pack, and he wasn't sure how to feel. But as he walked away from the flickering light of the city and into the darkness of midnight, he felt wariness settle in his chest, spreading into disease and then fear. He'd heard stories of the wolves and strange creatures outside the safety of the city, and of the bandits and cutthroats who prayed on travelers. He'd grown up with the poverty of the cities all around him, but he knew how to avoid strangers, maneuver through the crowds and protect himself there, but out here was different. The half-moon hung off-white in the gloomy sky, casting the hilly, forested landscape in a beautiful but fearful black. He tried to walk quickly and quietly, focusing on the path, but started to grow more and more uneasy to the point where he felt his heart thundering in his chest and his breath quickening in fear, every little rustle or glint of light filling his stomach with cold terror.
As he continued through the forests, he grew exhausted from a lack of sleep and the earlier events; his fear dulling into a nagging uneasiness as he continued on, hand still warily at the hilt of his knife.

Somnia wove her way beween the trees, following silently behind the one person apparently foolish enough to be traveling out here alone at night. She didn't want to hurt the boy, but her and her sister needed to eat, preferably sooner rather than later. She picked up a small stone off the ground, guaging it's weight and going over her plan twice more in her head before throwing the stone at a tree across the path, resulting in a resounding crack opposite her. A distraction. She moved quickly, jumping from her cover in the bushes and going for the boy's bag.

Raven jumped at the noise of something hitting a tree, ready to take off before he felt something grab his pack. His first instinct was to protect the creature safe in the bag, and he whirled, smashing his elbow into whatever was behind him with a shout, feeling it connect hard as he tried to tear free of whatever had him.

Somnia grunted in pain, taking the blow in her already bruised and battered ribs and hitting the ground before she could catch herself. She scrambled to her feet omve she'd realized what had happened, trying to dash around the boy to make another grab at the pack he was protecting so fiercely.

Raven drew his knife as soon as he got free, not sure what was attacking him, but looked in shock at the form of a person as they fell to the ground, feeling fear take hold of his senses he failed to speak. As they scrambled up he tried to back up before they lunged at him again, whirling quickly to keep his back away from them and driving into them with his full weight as they lunged trying to push them down, but his legs tangled with theirs and he toppled to the ground with them, one hand on the ground and the other gripping the knife over them, his eyes wide in terror.

Somnia grunted as she hit the ground again. Everything ached. Fearful eyes rested on the knife as the two settled in the dirt. She reached up to grab onto the boys wrist and potentially stop him from bringing the knife down if that was his intention.

The dragon scrambled out of the bag, the sudden movement rudely startling her out of her sleep. She hopped awkwardly to the ground, still holding her coin protectively.

Raven made no effort to push the knife downwards, breathing quick in panic, he hesitated, just trying to keep her at bay but worried if he got up the girl would attack him again. "A-Are you done? He asked tensely. "I just want to leave." He stated seriously, but felt a pang of fear as the tiny lizard went to the ground. He pulled his wrist back quickly from the other, keeping the knife defensively out as he scrambled off her and back. He carefully reached up and scooped the dragon to his chest, shaking from the adrenaline. He didn't want to fight this person let alone hurt her, he just wanted to get the hell out of the woods safely.

The dragon squirmed as she was picked up again, dropping her precious coin in the process. Instantly she was trying to wriggle free of the boys grasp to retrieve it.

Somnia scrabbled backward on the ground, startled by the knife and the strange little creature, not too startled to overlook the object it dropped however. She darted forward, snatching the coin off the ground before retreating back to the trees.

Raven attempted to regain control over the tiny creature in his arms. "Stop it, I'll find you another." He whispered quickly, blinking as he watched the girl make off with the single coin, letting her go. He felt a pang of surprise and pity; if she was so desperate for such a small amount, she must be hungry or something. After all, she hadn't threatened or even tried to hurt him, and at this point it was clear she was on her own... He understood, he'd barely seen a coin until Aislin had bought him, and even then, the small amounts the man threw around for drink or rich foods still startled him.
He swallowed his fear, barely hesitating before calling out into the darkness "H-hey, if you need coin, I have some extra! And food!" He offered. In truth he had no idea if he had extra, but if he had anything then he had enough to share with a starving person.

The dragon managed to wriggle free of Ravens grasp, dashing for the trees where the girl had disappeared, following her scent.

Somnia stopped a ways off, winded, leaning against a tree for support. At least she hadn't left empty handed. She held up the single pitiful coin to examine in the moonlight.

Raven watched in horror as the dragon took off, barely hesitating before sprinting after her, catching more than his fair share of branches and thorns across his skin as he chased the nimble creature. "Wait! Come back!" He called out, trying to catch up, but barely keeping her in his sight until he caught up to her and the girl.

Somnia jumped back as the creature whipped around the tree after her, making a sort of yapping sound in her direction. What even was that thing? Somnia wondered, pressing herself into the tree even harder to try and i ch away from the creature.

Raven puffed as he caught up to them as the small lizard tried to threaten the frightened looking girl, to tired for any of this. He swung his pack around, fishing around in it and pulling free the coin pouch, roughly halving it as he reached in and pulled out a handful of coin, swinging the pack back on and holding out his hand to her. "H-here. I know what it's like to be hungry." He offered sheepishly, hesitating.

Somnia looked up and down the boy cautiously before reaching for the coins. "Th-thank you." She stuttered.unsure of what to do next. She jumped.as the small lizard snarled squeakily at her again.

Raven passed her the coin, keeping one in his palm and cautiously lowering himself to the dragon's level, holding it out. "Here. Stop being a bully." He scolded; she sure was acting tough for a cat sized lizard with a broken wing. He reached his arm down to the creature so she could climb up again.
He glanced up at the girl then. "Uh- My name's Raven, I'm from Selfort, heading back there." He introduced, trying to ease the awkward, cold tension in the darkness.

The dragon took the coin quickly, sniffing at it. This wasnt the same coin that she'd had, but she supposed ahe was satisfied. She scampered up the boys arm, laying across his shoulders comfortably.

"Somnia." The girl responded, watching the creature uneasily. "I'm trying to find a safe place to stay for a little while." She told the boy, deciding to leave out the part where her injured sister was waiting for her to return, and where the city's guards might still be after them.

Raven nodded. "I... I'm doing the same. Did you want to walk there with me? It would probably be safer for both of us that way." He suggested, smiling in a friendly manner. "And it would be nice to have some company." He still didn't know for sure that company wouldn't try to rob him in his sleep, but so far Somnia seemed pretty okay for a footpad. "There's lots of cheap taverns and work there." He added.

Somnia Looked the boy up and down once more "No. Thank you. I'll be fine." she said, inching her way around the tree, getting ready to take her leave.

At her rejection, Raven nodded in understanding, a little crestfallen and growing nervous again as the other started to leave, looking around himself in the darkness. and realizing he had no idea how to get back to the path or which direction they had been going. "U-uh, Somnia?" He asked uncertainly. "Do you know how to get back to the road? Th...there aren't other... um, others out here are there?" He asked, avoiding the word thief, all bravery gone now that he was being left alone again, petting the creature on his shoulders and clearly still spooked.

Som looked over her shoulder hesitating. "It's back the way you came. There shouldn't be anyone else out here." She said evenly, before continuing into the darkness.

"Um, I know I offered for you to come with me, but can I stay with you? I-I've never left the town before, and I-..." He broke off ashamedly, not wanting to be alone after everything that had happened, especially in the forest at night. "Just until morning, I made a mistake trying to travel out here alone." He admitted weakly.

Somnia didn't look back at the boy, melting into the dark of the night. She felt bad for him, but she had not only herself to keep safe, but her badly injured sister to get back to.


The dragon sniffed at the boys ear as the stranger disappeared, nibbling at it gently.
