Kait looked over the house carefully, searching for any sign of life within. So far she hadn't seen anything, but those footprints worried her slightly. Whoever had made them had been gone for a little while, meaning either they got wind that they were coming and ran, or could be back at any moment. The garage seemed the best point of entry. She watched for a couple more minutes before gesturing for g to follow her, walking up to the building, trying not to draw attention to herself, and quickly ducked under the door.

Gena followed nervously, slipping easily beneath the door after Kait, looking around and sticking close to her mentor as she searched for any trace of the contraband; gun powder, explosive ingredients, anything. Checking some crates, she jumped, barely holding back a cry as a cat bolted from under a desk and out the garage door, sighing with relief that it was just a harmless animal. Continuing on, she lifted a tarp towards the back of the Garage and found rolls of plastic sheet and fuses, along with buckets containing several powders and putty-like substances. "Kait..." She whispered, moving back so the other could see in the dim light.

Kait paled at the sight. That was a lot of explosives. "We need to get out of here. Now." she said seriously, turning back towards the opening in the garage door. They would have to go back and report their findings. The military or someone else could come in and deal with the situation from here now that they knew just what they were dealing with.

Gena nodded, her fear growing before she heard a metallic screech as the garage door was slammed shut and everything fell into a murky gloom, just barely visible from the light shining through the small, rusted out holes in the metal sheet. "Kait-" She whimpered, barely keeping herself from clinging to the other in terror before a side door burst open, a tall and unpleasant looking man standing in their way. He wore a thick jacket and the strength of a brawler, and his white hair was pulled back into a scraggly braids dangling at the sides of his porcelain skin.
"What are you doing in here?" He growled, before he noted the uncovered explosives, and shut the door behind him, advancing on them.

Gena wanted to cry or run, but forced her panic down and pushed herself in front of Kait, determined to protect the other woman.

Kait backed up against the garage door, pulling the other with her. She squinted into the darkness fearfully, staring down the man as he entered. Maybe they could try running in different directions around the man? He wouldnt be able to run after both of them. Or maybe they could reason with him somehow. Kait was startled when G stepped in fron of her, looking up at the other in confusion. What was she doing?

As the man headed for the two, Gena hesitated for a second, then lowered her torso and lunged, hitting him with her shoulder and hooking her arm about his, knocking him off balance and sending him rolling over her, using his own weight and momentum to land him flat on his back, however, he was much heavier than Kai, and the unanticipated weight sent her sprawling as she failed to keep her footing, landing on her side  and scrambling to her feet on the other side of him. The man clambered up faster though, and hit her hard with several kicks to her ribs and abdomen until she curled in a heap, and then turned on Kait again, picking up a tire iron that laid to the side and pulling back to swing at other.
Gena, fueled by wild fear and adrenaline, pushed her self up  and kicked out hard at the back of his knee, effectively forcing him to drop into a kneeling position, she caught her balance, stepping back, switching to the other foot and with a swinging motion whirled and connected her leg with the side of his head, knocking him hard onto his side and landing on top of him, drawing her knife. She winced as he grabbed her hair in a fist at the back her skull, but in the same motion that he smashed her into the garage floor, she drove the knife into his temple.
When he stilled, Gena kicked hard at him in an effort to get away, sobbing hard and pushing herself back frantically, holding her stomach and blinking as the room spun.

Kait watched the two fight in shock, cowering when the man came after her with he tire iron. She stood there silently for several seconds after the man went still, trying to figure out what just happened. She staggered over gena slowly. "Are you okay?" whe asked the other alarmed. "Can you walk? We have to get out of here. There could be more."

Gena nodded, clambering to her feet and trying to muffle her cries with her hand as she took shaking breaths, finally pushing down her voice and sticking close to Kait. She held an arm protectively over her abdomen, weak from the sudden, overwhelming burning that she felt. "I think I'm dying." She whimpered. Kai had hit her and knocked her down before when they sparred, but never like this; she'd never been in a life of death fight, but she wasn't sure what she'd expected. Alongside the terror that she felt, as she looked at the lifeless body, there was something else, a rush of adrenaline, a sense of survival that made her feel alive, and it felt good.
She followed Kait out quickly, but just wanted to lay down on the floor and stay there. "Where do we go?" She asked in a terrified whisper.

Kait helped the other up and out of the building, setting a good pace once they were out in the open air. She just needed out of here. "Now we go and give all of the details to our supervisor, explain what happened and what we found. They'll send someone to deal with the situation."

Gena nodded, trying to walk straight and regain her composure, but something felt wrong inside her and scared her as they walked while the adrenaline faded. "I just killed someone Kait." He whispered, not sure how to feel. She felt proud that she'd kept Kait safe, but she'd also had her hands all over contraband less than a month ago. That man could have been her.

"You saved our lives" kait corrected, "He would have killed us both given the chance." she said evenly, though she herself was still freaking out internally. "How did you learn to do that anyway?" she asked curiously

Gena looked uncertain at the other's question. "My boyfriend, and my mom and dad." She informed warily, though didn't meet the other's eyes, scared she would be questioned and let something slip, and walked a little faster despite her pain.
By the time she made it to Kait's office, she grabbed her bag and excused herself to the bathroom, feeling absolutely nauseous and scared.
She'd had the illness pretty bad before, but not as quickly as this.

After several minutes of vomiting and coughing up blood, her fear was confirmed; the man must have  worsened the healing ulcers in her stomach.
She didn't know what to do, but could barely pick herself up from the bathroom stall, let alone run home to Kai or find a doctor who wouldn't rat her out without a second thought.
She fumbled with her medicine and pain killers, doing her best to down it with water from the sink, but the bottle slipped from her hand and spilled it's contents over the floor as she lunged for the toilet again, whimpering in despair when she finally drew back. She tried to push herself up, desperate to pick up the pills before anyone came looking for her, but as she turned, her eyes terrified and her face drained of color when she saw Kait standing there. Frightened, she hurriedly tried to pick up the medicine before Kait saw, but some part of her knew it was too late.

Kait nodded to the other, slumping down at her desk, trying to calm down as she waited for the other to return. She got up after several minutes, worried for the other. She hadn't looked so good, amd had taken quite a beating. She stepped into the bathroom quietly. She froze at the sight of Gena on the floor, shocked. Wait what? Was she just sick, no that wasn't normal sick. But she couldn't have the illness could she? This job was never given to the ill, and she had never noticed any of the symptoms in her before. She looked between  womans face and the meds on the floor before stepping to the side to grab a towel, handing it to the other. " here. Get cleaned up." she said. Regaining her composure.

Gena accepted the towel warily after she'd scooped up the medicine, and wiped her mouth with shaking hands, doing her best to get herself together despite how awful she felt. "K-Kait, please, don't tell anyone." She pleaded, her voice a whisper. "I'm not contagious, I promise, I-I've had the shots. If anyone finds out they'll kill me-" She started, not sure if Kait would have any empathy for her now that she knew, but she had to try, she didn't want to hurt the other.

Kait was quiet for a moment, debating her loyalties before nodding.  "I won't." she said softly, decided. "You save me. I save you." she almost felt guilty, but she liked Gena.

Gena looked at the other with gratitude and relief on her pale, freckled face. She stepped forward and wrapped the other in a hug, holding the the woman tightly before stepping back, uncertain of herself. "Thank you Kait, thank you." She sniffled, pushing her things back into her bag quickly.

Kait was startled by the hug, patting the others back awkwardly until she pulled away. She stood there awkwardly for a moment, not sure what to do now. "So umm. are you okay?" she asked quietly, knowing there was nobody else around but keeping her voice down all the same.

Gena managed a tearful smile of thanks as she composed herself, wiping her eyes, still shaking from the fear of the encounter. "Y-Yeah, I'll be alright I think." She assured the other, though she wasn't too sure herself. "I.. I think I should go home. I don't feel well at all... If you're okay here, I don't want to just leave you after that fight?" She asked with concern, although her pain was clear on her pale face.

--------------------------------

Gena waited in her small, top-floor office for her new apprentice to arrive, restlessly organizing her files and refitting them in their brown envelopes and tidying the small office. It smelled faintly of coffee and smoke, and the stuffy air was a dusky grey from the coupled light of a dying bulb and the ice encrusted, tiny window. Her one comfort was a space heater beside her desk, along with her heavy black coat slung over her shoulders. At least it was warm. Her pretty civilian dresses and boots offered no protection from the cold, as human as they made her feel.
At the sound of a knock, she went to answer with a spring in her tall step, turning the handle and smiling as she opened the door.

Spes knocked on the door excitedly, practically bouncing on the balls of her feet. She'd ecstatic to start her new job. "Intelligence". She could be doing research that could save so many people of the federation. Maybe revolutionize the way they grew their food. Maybe even cure the illness. Whatever she was going to be working on she was ready.

"Hello, Spes? I'm Gena Singer, come on in." She invited gently, glancing over the girl and offering her hand to shake, relieved that she wasn't overly tall or distinctive. A large form, an aggressive demeanor or a hostile looking face could stick out easily and be remembered. She wondered what had led a young healthy girl into this type of work; not a lot of friendly school girls had their minds set on dangerous and inglorious work.
She let the other in and gently shut the door behind her, walking over to her desk.
"Coffee?" She asked, lifting a large thermos in offering it to the other before sitting in her chair and gesturing to the one at the side for the girl to sit.
"So," She began uncertainly, smiling pleasantly. "I will be your mentor until I and a small board of intelligence officers deem you fit for field work, then you will shadow me during work and tactical situations indefinitely until you or I are reassigned. I have a schedule here for you of when and where we will meet. It'll be a combination of paperwork and assignment cases here in my office, and physical training in the bunker in the western quad. They should have given you a shiny blue identification card, you should carry that with you at all times, it'll give you access to any areas you'll need, if you're ever without me until you get your official stuff. Now, of course all of this is confidential, you aren't to speak to family or friends about your training, locations, operations, anything. I know it can be exciting or frightening or painful and you'll want to share it, and I don't want to scare you, but this is a very serious service to the Federation, and there are dire consequences for breaching security, so it's best to keep quiet and learn to find friends in your partners. If you're uncertain or upset about anything, you can come to me, people are meant to ask questions, but be careful around the other agents for now. Its better to listen than to talk in this profession." Gena paused, leaning back a bit. "Did you have any questions?"

Spes bounced into the room excitedly, waving off the coffee politely. some of the things that Gena was saying seemed odd but she just shrugged it off, trying to take in as much information as she could. "So are you saying that we're friends?" Spes asked with nervous smile, just eager to get started.

Gena blinked at the other, but nodded with a hesitant smile. "Sure, you could say we could be." She confirmed gently, not sure about how happily the other was taking this. She had killed and turned in a lot of people in her life, but the prospect of it didn't exactly put a spring in her step. "So Spes, do you having any combat training? It helps to have a bit of a feel for hand to hand going in... but if you don't we can put in some extra time and figure out your skill level."

Gena narrowed her eyes in confusion. "Well, Spes, you... you know what this job is, right? We'll be taking the criminals out directly once we find them. It's not as simple as shooting a gun or asking them to come in; it can get really rough." She explained, concerned the other might've thought she was in bureaucratic intelligence work only.
