Sliet followed the other two women into the large building, sweeping her light over the piles of rubble warily. She strained her ears for any hint of something hiding in the mess and the darkness, so focused on the foreign surroundings that she nearly tripped over a rock, quickly catching herself.

Anderson let out a snort as Sliet nearly stumbled, but glanced off, shutting up as Kat looked back at them curiously, then continued down the staircase. As he looked to the side, he missed a step and fell on his ass, slipping two steps and cursing loudly. Kathrine took a breath, glancing back at Sliet with an unhappy look. Why did they need him along again? He was a damn idiot, and she didn't need him shooting her in the back if he slipped.
She hurried ahead after Singer, leaving the two kids to follow behind.

She met with Singer, who was trying to force open the firedoor at the bottom, but was having little luck, and walked up, gesturing for the brunet to move back before feeling along the door for a handle in the darkness, and forcing it with her palm until the lock inside bent and whined with the force, finally giving, alongside the metal that made up the push-handle.

The corridor far below was endless and dark, with a low ceiling. All the lights but one, far off in the distance and around a bend, had gone out, leaving the space in between like a narrow void. There was a deafening silence, and a slight hum in the air from that still remained powered, connected through its lines to the surface. As Kathrine took in her surroundings, she felt a bitter unease settle in her stomach. She knew this place, but she couldn't place it, there was just an odd, uncertain recognition.

Sliet forced herself not to laugh when Anderson fell, reaching out a hand to help him up. She shivered when the door was open, the hair on the back of her neck standing on end. She didn't like this place.

Singer turned on her flashlight and headed the march down the hall, looking about warily. She hadn't been here in person before, but she'd seen maps and received reports concerning the old structure.

Anderson took Sliet's hand firmly as she helped him up, muttering and following her down the stairs. When he stepped into the dark hall, he felt uneasiness wash over him. He wasn't sure he'd ever been so far underground before.

Kathrine walked along in silence beside the General, observing quietly. She wasn't afraid of the empty place or the darkness and dust, but she couldn't shake her uneasiness. After walking for a while, she felt a sudden pang as they came up upon a set of hall-ways. Uncertain, she slowed and brushed her hand against the wall, looking around with growing discomfort.
"What's wrong, do you hear something?" Singer asked, concerned.
Kathrine didn't reply, feeling tense and dizzy.
This place. This was where they'd rescued Sliet.
Where she'd lost Terra.
The blond walked a little ahead, aimless as her emotions threatened to overwhelm her. She clenched her fists, trying to control what she was feeling, but it was no use, and she found herself staring in shock down the hall where she'd last seen Terra, tearing free and vanishing into the chaos. For a second, she thought she heard the gunfire, her own screams. She felt tears sting her eyes and tensed, growing angry at her own weakness. She wouldn't cry in front of her enemy. Trying to muster the control to stop, she abruptly let out a growl and pulled back before slamming her fist down hard enough to crush through the fortified concrete wall. She drew back, seething from the pain as her crushed hand began to knit, aided and slowly numbed by the tech, but she felt little respite. Ignoring the shock of the group, she looked for the closest thing to burn off her rage, and reached for a long abandoned operating table and heaved it over her head, before hurling it will all her strength down the hall into the darkness. It smashed and screeched against the floor while she felt the aftermath of her torn muscles and received the blaring red messages over her sight telling her she was injured. No shit. She doubled over a little, holding one side while the tech drained her energy further, fixing the damage she'd done.
"Saw a fucking rat." She muttered, straightening up and heading down the hall again at a hurried pace.

Anderson had placed himself behind Sliet, his eyes wide and breath held, flinching a bit as the table crashed hard down the hallway. The General looked over at the two, clearly alarmed. Was the droid unhinged?

Sliet watched kat in confusion for a moment, unsure why this place was getting to her so much, or why this place was kind of... Familiar... Oh shit. She quickly reached for singer, rabbing her coat and pulling her back with Anderson. She watched kat tensely, quite worried for the other. It took her several moments to follow after her friend, frozen to her spot.

Kathrine walked on ahead of the others, taking several deep breaths and checking around in the darkness. She shone the flashlight around; taking note of the doors in this part of the hall. Peering through the glass, most had been gutted and held nothing more than a table or empty crates. The last one she came to however, held cabinets and boxes. She forced the lock and stepped inside, wary at first, but only noticing the thick smell of ink and paper. Opening the drawers, she found hundreds on in-tact folders and bagged documents and began searching.

Singer stepped back as Sliet pulled her, moving behind her as she was directed. She didn't like being guided around, but she wasn't about to argue. "What's the matter with her?" She asked quietly, once the other had gone into one of the side rooms.

Anderson said nothing for once, still looking around and feeling unsettled by their surroudings.

"We lost someone here... a long time ago." Sliet whispered without looking back at the woman, just concerned for her friend. She wanted to go and make sure that Kat was okay, but wasn't sure if this was the time.

Kat leaned out of the room she was in, frowning. "I can hear you both. And Paper, really?" She snapped, holding up a dusty folder and looking at Singer.
"We couldn't trust old terminals, everything was so old." The general replied, walking ahead. "Was this what you were looking for?"
Kat mumbled noncommittally, dipping back into the room.
The blond immediately reappeared, drawing her gun and running over to the others.
"Someone's coming." She stated quietly, looking off into the darkness ahead.
"Bandits?"
"I don't know. Quiet."
Anderson noticed the sound of feet shuffling a few moments later and tensed, drawing his gun as well.

Sliet frowned at her friend as she ducked out of the darkened room. She jumped when he other drew her gun before she heard the footsteps for herself. She reached for her own weapon, her eyes straining to see through the darkness. Maybe it was just this place putting her on edge, but something sounded off about the gait coming from just out of her field of vision.

Kat moved ahead and out of the way of the other's weapons, raising hers to aim at whatever came out of the darkness. She noticed only one figure stumbling forward. They didn't look good. She relaxed a little, watching them warily and drawing back as the other approached. "Hello? What are you doing down here? Are you hurt?"

The man who stumbled forward looked to be in very old, torn clothing, but he didn't appear old himself. His skin was milky white paper covering jutting bones, and his eyes were glazed over like that of a dead man's. He didn't reply, just walked towards them as if intent on something. Anderson looked disturbed and backed up, not letting his guard down, while Singer looked ready to shoot at the slightest hint of danger.

Kat felt a pang of concern. God, how long had this person been down here? it was a wonder he wasn't dead. She rushed forward to help him, lowering her weapon and reaching into her pack for her water. "Here, it'll be alright, we'll help you-" She was cut off abruptly as the other forced her hard into the wall as she looked down, his skeletal fingers gripping her throat and crushing down as he lifted her up. Kathrine choked out a cry of shock, grabbing onto the other's wrist and swinging to kick him full force in the chest. It did nothing. Her vision blurred as things sped up and he slammed her into the floor. She tried to breathe. She felt a hum. Heard a shot.

SKIP

Raven sat against the wall, near to the fire where he was caring for Caligo, watching the door and waiting for Elinore to return when he head the door rattle. Wary, he leapt to his feet and went forward, opening the stubborn, rusted door to find Kait standing in front of him, a baby and two kids in tow. He opened the door quickly for her to come inside. "Are you alright?" He asked quietly, looking down the street after she'd entered to make sure no one was following behind.

Kait slowly made her way to the care center, the baby under one arm, chicken hidden in her coat and carefully keeping the other two kids close. She ushered the children inside before stepping in out of the cold herself. She gritted her teeth, not wanting to let the kids see how scared she was. "Is there any room for us to stay here tonight?" she asked avoiding the question.

"Of course, come in, Elinore should be back soon." He replied quickly, keeping his voice hushed so as not to wake the others taking refuge. Raven glanced at the three children in awe and curiosity as he shut the door behind them; he could hardly believe they were all his siblings, but it warmed his heart to see their chubby little faces. When he glanced up at Kait, he noticed the stress in her face, but thought better than to question her now. They had little in the way of supplies, but maybe his room would offer some shelter and warmth for the kids. "Follow me." He told her softly, leading her to the side where his old room was. It had a small bed with some sheets and blankets, a small oil lamp and a box of his old belongings. He left and returned with more blankets, a box of crackers and some stew he'd managed to scrape together that day.  lit the lamp and set it away from the bedding, and stood back. "I'm sorry, theres not much here..." He apologized. He suspected Kait and the kids were used to having their own rooms and beds, nothing like this, but it was all he could offer her. "Did you get here okay? Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Thank you. It's perfect." she thanked the boy softly. "I just need a few minutes to get them settled. I'll be out to explain after."she whispered before turning to the kids and telling the sleepy little ones to jump into bed. Assuring them everything was going to be fine, she tucked them in setting the sleeping baby between the other two and dimming the lamp once they were all out and quietly retreating from the room.

Raven nodded and left the other alone, stepping back out into the main room to give Kait some peace, watching the door nervously and hoping Elinore would return soon.
When the other reappeared from his room, he turned to her, watching in concern as he waited for her to explain.

Raven blinked at her  and then the bird in confusion as she removed the chicken from her coat, growing a little alarmed; Elinore was going to want eat that. He couldn't even bring home dogs as a kid. As she spoke his attention was quickly diverted though, and he looked up in concern, his heart dropping. How could they recruit ten year olds? Those kids were the future of anything the Federation hoped to be, and they were just that; kids. "When did they take him? Do you know where?" He asked, his eyes showing sudden determination before he heard the door open at the front. He turned, half expecting to have to explain himself to Elinore, but suddenly became tense when Josephe's large frame stepped in from the cold, the old floors creaking under his boots as the man shut the door.

Josephe fixed his coat, looking about in the gloom until he saw Kait and felt relief wash over him and headed towards her. "Kait, you-" He froze then, noticing the boy beside her and feeling his mouth become dry. For a moment he had no words as he stared at the wary-looking young man, his voice lost somewhere inside him. "You're alive." Was all he got out, his voice quiet, but from the silence, and the look on the other's face, it was the wrong thing to say. Uncertainly, he looked back to his wife, his tone betraying a desperation to understand what was going on, why she was here, what had happened to Vince. "Kait?"

Raven watched the man with evident distrust, wishing that he hadn't come here. He couldn't let Josephe get in the way of this, he didn't want him hurt, and he didn't want his friends dying because of the other's loyalty to the federation, either. Right now though, they had to focus on helping Vince, Josephe would at least agree to that, right?

Josephe blinked at her as he she embraced him, explaining, and brought a hand up to her back, holding her close for a moment and staring down at the wooden floor of the center in shock. He hesitated for a moment, pulling back to look at her, feeling suddenly helpless. "They're gathering soldiers to train. He... He'll be alright Kait." He voiced numbly, but he didn't seem anymore certain than Kait.

Raven was rumaging through his pockets, setting a few things he didn't want to lose to the side, but keeping his pocket knife at his belt when he looked up at Josephe. "Let's go." He stated, starting to walk past the two.
"What?" Josephe turned to the other, looking wary and confused at the boy approached.
"You- you can go in and get him out, I'll find his papers and get rid of them. Did you leave anything at home they could use to find you here?" Raven asked, his voice quiet but serious.
"Raven, thats not- what are you even doing here?"
The other frowned. "We can talk after we get Vince."
"That's treason-" Josephe started, looking alarmed. "And it won't work, if I get caught it'll make things worse, for everyone, Vincent too, thats a dangerous and stupid idea." The man snapped, turning as the other walked past him.
"We won't be caught- you can walk right through them; what are you afraid of? he's your son, and he's just a kid, what, 10?" He frowned, trying to remember what Kait had said. "He won't 'be alright' in a battle."
"No. It's not that simple. I'm not risking everything on something that isn't realistic."
"Fine." Raven stated, his voice still soft. "I'll go get him myself."
"Raven-" Josephe growled.
"No- No, He's your kid, and if that's not enough for you, then it is for me- he's my brother."

Kait pulled away at his response, looking up at Josephe in disbelief. She waited for more. He would be alright because they were going to get him? Because Josephe would keep him safe? Because all of this was just a sick twisted joke? She felt anger flare in her chest when he didn't continue. "You can't be serious." she said incredulously. "He's right Josephe, we have to do something. We can't just abandon him."

Re: Future thing

Post by Kazukedud on Fri May 26, 2017 9:25 pm

Josephe looked back at Kait with understanding and pain in his eyes, he felt the same agony she did, but going after the boy wouldn't solve anything. If they freed Vince, he'd be a runaway for the rest of his life, and if, no, when, he was caught, he would suffer far more than being sent back to the military, not to mention what would be done to himself or Kait; they'd loose their positions, wouldn't have enough to feed the other three; they were old now, not of any use to the federation, and that was if they weren't tortured or publicly executed for treason in war time. Kait and Raven were both being driven by their hearts instead of thinking it through, but he didn't know how to fault Kait for anguish over the loss of Vince. As he tried to think of a reply, he kept telling himself that Vince would be okay, that he'd come home again after the invaders were taken care of, that he'd have a job and a name for himself; he was healthy and young, they wouldn't just throw his life away, they couldn't. "Kait- Listen to me-" He started, reaching to touch her arm, trying to calm her down, but Raven spoke up before he could get anything under control.
"It's okay, I'll get him back." Raven promised Kait, giving her a small nod before opening the door and heading out into the darkness.
Josephe looked to be a mix between furious and agonized as the door shut, not knowing what to feel anymore.

Skip

Josephe waiting with concern, pacing and inadvertently worrying the ill patients who were trying to sleep nearby, while he let Kait alone for the moment, his growing unease making his stomach start to hurt. When he heard someone at the door, he bristled, ready to defend Kait if soldiers had followed them back, but when the door opened, a whole different threat stood in his way.

Sliet treaded quietly through the dark, looking up at the care center when she arrrived the old building looming in front of her. She opened the door, stepping in out of the cold night air. She looked around the strange place curiously. So this is where Raven had been staying. She froze for a second in shock when she noticed Josephe. She rushed forward before he could attack, trying to grab him by the coat and pin him against the nearby wall with all of her unnatural speed nd strength.

Re: Future thing

Josephe raised his weapon but was unable to fire before she barreled into him, and dropped it and pushed back against her force, striking her in the ribs, head and trying to kick and throw her to the ground, cursing and bewildered. He struck her hard a second time and stumbled back, gaining some room, before he caught movement from the corner of his eye- another attacker? And felt something bristly collide with his face before he could react.

Elinore was heading back towards the center, carrying blankets and coats in her arms, when she noticed a female figure walking quietly up on the care center. By the way the other moved, she could tell she wasn't cold, exhausted or weak in the slightest; she moved like a predator. Fear bubbled up in her as she wondered if it was some informant or soldier, someone looking for the people she was watching over. She was far too tall to be Kait. As quietly as she could manage on icy street, she followed the other, drawing her knife from her boot and opening it, sliding it into her sleeve as she followed the woman, waiting until she'd entered the center to creep up the stairs after her. She was about to peer in when she heard a scuffle break out. Terrified that someone had found Raven, she rushed open the door and stepped in, only to see two tall adults tussling about. Having none of it, she returned her knife to her boot, and grabbed the broom nearest to the door, walking straight for the two without hesitance and smashing it down between them, jabbing at both with the bristled end to separate them and cramming her way between the two. "Hey! Stop it! No scrapping in hear you donkeys, take it outside! This is a sanctuary, and people are trying to sleep!" She shouted, her old voice gravelly and limited but serious. Several of the people who had been woken by the argument immediately sprang to the woman's aid, leaping to their feet and helping to tug the two apart and keep Elinore from being hit.

Josephe aggressively shrugged the people off, pushing them back with ease, but his eyes stayed locked on Sliet and his lips were pulled back in anger to show his teeth as he shifted on his feet, paying little attention to the old woman before she brought the broom down directly on his face.
"Listen here, I said no fighting, can you hear? Get the wool out of your ears!"
Josephe looked down at Elinore, perplexed.
"Who are-"
"I'm Elinore, and this is my house, so sit down or get out." She barked.
"This is-"
"Sit Down." She directed, pointing at the floor with one hand and waving the broom above his head with the other. "Or Get out." She added, swinging her hand to the door.
"Ma'am-" He tried to protest before she struck him again. With that, he yanked the broom out of her hand, but was quickly bombarded by a half dozen ill residents again, and thought he felt a knife at his back as he struggled to push them away.
"Enough! Get off me!" He snarled, his voice commanding and angry as he pushed the broom back into the woman's hands and stepped back, staring both her and Sliet down as he cautiously lowered himself to the ground, sitting awkwardly.
Elinore watched him sit before turning around, to look equally as fiercely at Sliet.
"You too." She warned, pointing at the floor with the broom still in hand.

Sliet took the blows with relative ease. Staggering back at the thing shoved in her face. She scowled in anger and confusion, tugging against the people pulling her back. Was this an ambush or something. She looked to the old lady, equally confused. She tried not to laugh when josephe was hit with the broom again, watching with great satisfaction as the old woman bossed him around. All of those good feelings disappeared when the woman turned on her, surprisingly intimidating. She kind of reminded her of Otifer. She sat cautiously. So this was Elinore. She shifted her gaze between the tiny old woman and the man sitting accross from her.

Elinore smiled pleasantly at the woman's much quicker compliance, and moved back a little. "That's better, thank you dears, now, what is going on here, and who are you? Anyone is welcome but I can't have fighting, and I've not seen faces like yours in a long while." She asked, motioning for them to stand if they wanted to.

Josephe clambered to his feet quickly, keeping his distance from both of them. He considered speaking up as a captain, but hesitated and decided that might be a bad idea if word were to get around that he was here. "My name is Josephe, I'm here with my Wife, Kait." He offered gruffly. "And that woman is an enemy of the Federation, one of the invaders." He growled, gesturing to Sliet.
This was Kait's husband? Elinore looked back at the woman then without concern, pondering for a moment. "You must be looking for Raven."
"If you are he isn't here." Josephe warned, but with this, Elinore look immediately unhappy again. "Who are you?" She asked again.
"Josephe."
"What do you do? You know what I mean. Did you and Kait come to arrest him?" She asked frankly, her face somewhat pale.
