Josephe felt almost startled by the voice, and looked up wearily, not bothering to try and muster any sense of composure. "What is it, Leloup?" He asked, his voice gravelly and tired, but far from his normal dismissive tang. He wasn't sure if he wanted to be alone right now or not, but she was one of the more tolerable among the officers; he didn't feel bothered by her presence, at the very least. "Looking for something to drink?"

Sliet looked him over almost warily. He didn't look so good, but at least he didn't seem as dangerous as usual. The bottle made her uneasy though.  Wasn't there something in his file about alcohol? "I actually came to ofder my condolences, but a drink sounds nice." she answered, ducking into the tent a bit so they could talk with more ease.

He blinked at her quietly, somewhat caught off guard. Raven had been his son, but he was also a traitor now. Speaking fondly of traitors and enemies of the state was reason to be reconditioned. He hadn't expected empathy. He glanced back down at his hands, reaching and opening the bottle, pouring some into a cup for her and pushing both in her direction. "It was inevitable. I lost him a long time ago." He replied gruffly, then swallowed. He'd lost the boy when he'd left him for dead ten years ago, this was his doing at the root. "Thank you, anyway."

Sliet nodded, somewhat worried about him, if only minimally, considering telling him the truth for a moment before thinking better of it. She readily took both items, retreating from the tent to go and find free her friend.

Anderson treded carefully back into the town, keeping a careful eye out for anyone that might be on his trail, but after a while, eased up and headed directly to an area at the edge, a squat, concrete building with a lower, half exposed floor that had been fashioned into a cellar. He pried back the pallets and metal that had been lain over it,  and pulled the door open, glancing into the stark darkness and motioning.

With hesitance, a man walked out beside him, and others followed. There were a few stifled moans and muffled crying, but they were quickly hushed by other members of the group as they climbed out into the open around the captain. Anderson gave nothing but a nod in the darkness, and received a few solemn thank you's as the group seemed to struggle to keep itself together and quiet as it headed down the slope, away from their home. One crying woman wrapped her arms around him in thanks and he froze, brushing her off quickly, muttering for her to hurry up as he kept careful watch as they scrambled off into the darkness. It was a warm winter night; they'd be okay, they had to be. When they had all but gone, Anderson looked about him, into the darkness, and sighed once, cursing under his breath.

The brunet stood in the darkness for a few moments before unscrewing his flask and downing it, breaking half way to breathe and wince at the harsh taste before finishing it off and coughing a little. With that, he dropped the flask, ran his hand through his hair and cursed again, stepping back and pressing his back against the stone wall to support his tired frame, before quickly drawing his pistol up to his lips, trying to steady his shaking hand and struggling against the frustration and fear pooling in his chest.

Sliet tucked the bottle away in her coat for later, finding a place to dump the glass. As much as she might have needed the liquid courage, this was not a good place for her to be drinking. The assumed captain snuck back into the town, avoiding the firelight and recruits on her way, sticking to the shadows of the buildings as she searched for the one where Josey and the girls were hiding. She pressed herself tightly to a wall at a slight noise, inching around to investigate what it might be. Was that Anderson? What was he doing out here? She watched in silent surprise as people climbed out and disappeared, rather impressed with the man for once. She stayed there, still and silent as a stone almost making an attempt to leave before she saw him pull out the gun. For just a moment she was scared, certain that he had seen her, but she was horrified to see him turn it on himself. She had to do something.
She panicked, unsure of what to do, if she tried to talk to him it might make things worse or he would know that she had seen. If she rushed in then he might shoot her too. Maybe...
She paused, reaching into her coat and pulling out the bottle, looking between it and the man thoughtfully before doing her goofiest grin, humming a little tune and adding on her finest drunk stagger as she stumbed in between the houses. She pretended not to notice him until she got closer, looking up in feigned surprise before settling back into her unusual grin. "Hey there Anderson. Whatcha doin out here?" she slurred.

Anderson jumped at the other's voice, fumbling and quickly lowering his gun, regarding her with serious suspicion until he realized she was very drunk. "Christ Leloup." He muttered, not liking how broken his voice came out, looking around in concern and avoiding her gaze as he holstered his gun. He hardly blamed her for getting drunk in this mess though. Would she even remember this in the morning? He doubted it. "Just needed some air, maybe some hard stuff from the cellars round' here too. Ugh, let's get back to your tent, you're drunk as all hell." He muttered, trying to feign anger. Captain or not, he felt worried for her wandering around like this, especially with all the nasty officers around from other devisions.

Anderson frowned, it wasn't his job to babysit her either, but he was loathe to let her wander around like this, as much as he was tempted to accept her protest and leave. "Come on Leloup, I'll walk you back to your tent. You should get some sleep, don't make my night any more difficult." He pleaded grumpily.

Anderson sighed and led the other back towards the camp, away from any evidence of the escaped settlers. He wasn't sure what to think of Leloup, or if he could trust her. She'd let the woman get away before, but would she tolerate an entire group? It's not like he frequently went against orders, but then, they didn't usually get orders that fucking insane. Either way, he didn't want to end up with his skull crushed if Dumont got wind of this. He held out an arm to steady her as they headed into her tent. He passed her a water ration as she laid down, pulling up the covers and drawing back.
After a few moment's hesitation, he unbuckled his knife sheath from his belt and pressed it into her hand. The blade was his own, not some cheap issue-bayonet, so he felt a little wary handing it over, but decided it was for the better. "You're a little fucked right now and there's a lot of mean bastards in camp, so just... give it back in the morning." He muttered, before walking out and leaving the other alone.

Sliet stumbled along beside him, accepting the help. Why was anderson acting so strange? She snuggled into the covers, taking the weapon as it was offered, thanking him. "Hey Anderson..." she said, trying to keep him from leaving just yet. "You care. I ike that."

Anderson stopped when she said his name, walking back to see what she wanted. When she spoke again, he wasn't sure what to say, and shrugged. "Erm, Yeah, Night' Leloup." He added tiredly, scratching his head and nodding before heading out again.

FW Part: One - Page 42 Empty Re: FW Part: One

Post by Deathcap Fri Jun 23, 2017 9:05 am

(So skip to Raven and Sliet with immortality issues?)

Raven walked down the dirt road leading to the residency ship, his nervousness fding away as he considered everything he'd gone through, and became more and more certain he couldn't be caught at this point, unless Sliet spoke up or someone found the three tiny disks in his pocket, but that wasn't likely. He wasn't sure what would happen if he was caught, but he knew it was highly illegal. At the same time, the grey morality of it did not phase him. Maybe it was wrong when it came down to the greater good and overall equality, but he had no concern of Sliet ever using her power to hurt or dominate others, and it felt wrong that they had taken part of her away without her agreement. The ability of the original droids to pass through time unaged was, maybe, unfair, but it had got them and all those hundreds of earthling refugees here. What was equality anyway? They weren't going to put him on stilts because he was shorter than others, or make everyone else shorter. While he did agree that the droids having serious power in comparison to normal humans could cause serious issues in the future, this was for Sliet; he had total confidence that she would not misuse her immortality, she hadn't ever before, had she?
That aside, he owed her this, and he wouldn't be discouraged by arguments of ethics when this wasn't' going to hurt anyone. He just wanted Sliet to have a choice. Once he'd learned the use of the computers through his studying and research, it hadn't been hard, only tedious, to steal the pass-code, get into the archives and download an older version of the tech, Sliet's original version, Alongside the updated version they operated on now, to two of the re purposed disks. The disks had been the hard part, he'd had to get his hands on two empty ones from a fellow student who was studying the nanotech. He'd bribed the other by doing nearly all her work and papers for the semester, and was sure she wouldn't bring it up to anyone; he still had all the evidence he needed to threaten the other with plagiarism if it ever became a problem.
Trying to push his worry aside, he left the amber warmth of the fading sunlight and entered the cool air of the ship, heading for their apartment in search of Sliet.
Despite the heat, he wore long pants and a brown jacket alongside his scarf, but felt blissfully cozy rather than hot. He'd gained a bit of strength over the spring and summer here, but he was slow to regain any weight, and with that, he scarcely felt warm enough.
Entering the apartment, he peeked in, feeling a bit of relief when he saw Sliet. "Sliet? Are you busy? Could we go for a walk? I wanted to talk to you for a bit, if that's alright." He asked softly.

Sliet wandered around the house, cleaning as she went. She had her hair pulled up for once, and had recently discovered the wonderous invention that was shorts with the help of the locals, and she loved the freedom of movement it allowed. She looked up at the sould of the door, standing up from where she had been folding laundry to go and see who it was. She grinned happy to see Raven, though she was a bit concerned. "Sure kid. Whats up?"

Raven looked behind him, before glancing back at her and hesitating to reply, suddenly worried someone might hear them, or that if Anderson knew, he might be careless enough to tell Lilla. The boy closed the door and walked over to help her finish the laundry, picking up the remaining clothing a piece at a time and helping her fold it and set it aside. "I want to show you something, but I think we should head away from the ships." He added, keeping his voice soft encase one of the others were home. "It's not bad, just... something for you, don't worry."

Raven shook his head a bit in response. "Just away from the ships."
When they headed out into the fading light, he headed down between the ships and into the dusky golden feilds, climbing up into the sloping hills beside the other. "I'm going to miss this place." He commented softly, glancing back at her as they walked.

Sliet followed after raven, humming her agreement. She didn't like to think about going back, she didn't really want to, but if they were going back anyway she had to make sure they wouldn't all get themselves killed. She hated the idea of possibly never seeing this playce again, and most of all puting the ones she loved in danger again.

When they had reached the top of on of the hills, he looked around, and then over the settlement for a quiet moment before glancing down and reaching into his pocket, pulling out two of the data disks, labled in black marker. "Old" and "Update."
"These are for you. One contains the current updated system for the fairweather bionic tech. The other is the old one, the original. The one that keeps you from aging and deteriorating." He paused, hesitant. "It wasn't right for them to mess with you without your consent. You don't have to use it, and you can switch between them at will if you change your mind. I just wanted it to be your choice." He explained, and held them out to her.

Raven hesitated, placing them in her palm. "Only if someone finds out. I trust you." He smiled meekly, drawing back as he passed them to her and looking at her in concern. Was she upset with him for breaking the rules? He hadn't meant to put her in a rough spot, but wondered worriedly if she would make him turn them in.

Raven hugged Sliet back, smiling warmly before he stepped back a little, looking over the dusky fields again with contentment and weariness as he shifted on his feet and settled down to sit on the side of hill where they stood, crossing his legs. He seemed contemplative as his thoughts drifted, and he glanced back up at Sliet again, the  sunset glimmering in his amber eyes and setting them alight. "Sliet... while we're out here... can I uh.. talk to you about something else?" He asked softly.
